If you are one among many other users like me, who are never in the habit of closing Flows/ 1-1s and have a laundry list of Flows/ 1-1s always open

And you always find it hard to get to the right flow/ 1-1 of your choice quickly and end up scrolling through the list multiple times?

You are in for some luck, we are now adding a 'Quick Finder' search bar right on top of your organization name in the flow sidebar. It allows you to swiftly select a specific flow or 1-1 chat from an extensive list.

Pro Tip: If you are looking for someone specific, @username will get to 1-1s from that user alone excluding flows from the search results.

If you are having trouble locating the new quick finder bar just above your organization name in the Flow sidebar, refresh your browser/ restart you app.

NOTE: This feature is being rolled out to Web and Desktop apps of Flowdock and will be rolled out to mobile apps in a phased manner.

Hope you enjoy this update. If you have any questions, do post them as comments below or reach out to us @ Team-Flowdock-Support@ca.com.

PagerDuty recently announced in a post that V1 API that we we use for Flowdock + PagerDuty integration is planned to be decommissioned on 19th Oct'2018. So we proactively worked with PagerDuty and have updated our integration to work with V2 API. We plan to push this change on Oct 15th, Monday between 9AM - 12PM IST.

We want to keep this update as seamless as possible for our existing users who use this integration. Hence, on 15th Oct - Monday, between 9AM - 12PM IST, expect some delays in updates from PagerDuty to your flows while the update happens.

FAQs

1. Does my existing integration work post the update?

Ans: Idea is to keep all existing integrations working as is without any impact to any of our users and hence the 4 hour window for the update as heads up.

2. Do I have to remove my v1 API integration and reconnect using V2 API post this update?

Ans: No, you don't have to worry about this, we have a script that takes care and we plan to have it executed.

3. While the update happens, what happens to my existing integration?

Ans: As we said, on Monday, 15th Oct, between 9AM - 12PM IST, your PagerDuty integration would not work as expected and you would not receive updates in your flows. Once the update completes, it would be life as usual.

  • Context-sensitive assistive keyboard provides suggestions for quick actions such as @, @@, /

Bug Fixes

  • A sharp uptick in crashes that no longer happen. Because we fixed a handful of them.

  • An error message 'Could not connect to the server' would sometimes appear when Flowdock app returns from sleep mode or running in the background. Apologies for any frustration caused.

Changes to /appear integration

Posted by perdh02 Employee Sep 21, 2018

Appear.in in their recent blog announced few changes that they are making to the way you can access rooms on appear.

From September 24th 2018 all appear.in rooms need to be created by and owned by someone. You’ll no longer need to “claim” rooms after creating them which has been a cause of great confusion. Any room you create will from september 24th automatically be linked to your account.

We prepared a quick little FAQ to help you understand what this means to our customers who use the /appear command to have voice/ video calls with their team members via appear.

Q1. What does this mean to the way I have an appear call today via Flowdock? Can I continue to use just /appear command and have a random room name assigned?

Ans: With this change at Appear, we are not making any changes to Flowdock. What this means is, you will still have /appear command available, but for you to have a seamless experience you would have to provide your room name when you fire this command. Our command has [room name] as optional, with this change it means you would always have to provide a room name along with the command to have a seamless experience. For example, if you are looking to start a call in a room called Love-Flowdock, the command you would fire would be /appear Love-Flowdock which would give a link like https://appear.in/love-flowdock for others to join.

Q2. What happens if I do not provide a room name next to /appear command?

Ans: You will continue to receive a link with a random text as room name appended like it happens today, but once you click on the link to navigate to appear.in, "no such room exists" message is what you would get, unless its a claimed room already.

Q3. Does this mean I always need to have an account to have an appear call?

And: Yes and no. Anyone starting an appear call need to have an account with a room name already claimed. But others who wish to join need not have an account and can join the call like today.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them as comments below and we will do our best to answer them.

Flowdock supports a subset of Markdown language.  This means that you're not limited to the same old boring text formatting in your communications with your coworkers.  It's very simple to make comments stand out when you need them to.

Here's a table with some of the formatting we support in the Flowdock application.

For our mac users who have been asking this for a while now via user voice, you can now copy and paste images on flows and 1-1s from your clipboard directly without having to drag drag/ attach images.

What this means apart from more power to 'Ctrl+Command+Shift+4' on macOS High Sierra, is more time saved for you and ease of use!

We hope you enjoy this value add!

Slash Command Menu

Posted by obrta03 Employee Oct 3, 2017

It’s usually a hipster thing…

hoarding knowledge of an obscure band or an eatery with no sign indicating it is there. Sometimes a moment comes when the rest of the world finds out about one of these hipster treasures and “ruins” it for them. Now is that moment for slash commands in Flowdock!

Flowdock has slash commands functions that aren’t new. They’ve been there; hiding from most users. As a new team, working on a not-new product we had to ask ourselves: “Why wouldn’t we make all these features easier for users to find?” We couldn’t come up with a good reason.

So we hung a sign in front of our metaphorical eatery by simply putting all the Flowdock slash commands in an easy-to-find menu. Want to start a video call? Need to set a status message in a flow? Want to start a one-on-one conversation with someone?

There’s a /command for all of that and more!

Funny story…

when we beta tested this menu, most of the feedback we got was about the features in the menu, not the menu itself. Thus validating our thought that users would be interested in these features, if only they knew they were there. However, we haven’t made any tweaks to the commands themselves at this point, maybe in a future iteration we will. So please tell us what you think. Did you know about this band before it was cool?

It happens: you’ve written a comment in Flowdock, then you realize that there’s already a related thread in the Flow. What do you do?

Starting today, you can re-thread your message into the right location. When you want to move your post up a single thread, click the re-thread icon in the upper right corner of your message, and it will be added to the end of the thread.

You can also move a message to a thread by clicking the icon on the left of the message and dragging it to the new thread.

Note that this increment doesn’t support re-threading other people’s messages, nor re-threading the first message of a thread with multiple comments.

We hope that this feature will make your team’s conversations even more seamless and fluid. Re-threading is available on the web, desktop and Android versions of Flowdock, and will be available soon on iOS. Let us know what you think!

Copied from the post by @Garston over at New /appear Integration Replaces /room! - The CA Flowdock Blog:

Our team made use of Flowdock’s /room integration every morning for standup, as well as for ad-hoc meetings throughout the day.  The ability to quickly launch a video chat directly from our communication tool of choice without logins or downloads is extremely powerful.  Several members of our team are remote so they can easily join our team’s stand-up from our team’s flow in Flowdock.

However, a few weeks ago, we (and especially our new Director of Product, Tania, seen in the image below) were sad to hear that room.co was shutting down.

We quickly decided to whip up an integration with a similar service, appear.in, and we are happy to announce it as a replacement for the room.co integration!  Appear.in offers the same great benefits as Room but allows as many as eight people in the same video chat (versus four for Room).

Clearly Tania is excited, we hope you are too!  As you can see, Appear is also a group video chat tool, but in this case Tania appears (pun intended) to be hanging out in the “cool-heron” room waiting for the rest of our team to join.

To start a video chat from Flowdock, enter /appear in your team’s flow or from a 1-to-1 conversation.  You can share screens, make rooms private, save favorites, and view recent activity.

Learn more about this integration on our help page, or visit appear.in’s website for more information.
