12 Days of CA APM - Day 1 : E.P.I.C. APM Strategy

This morning we announced a new release of CA Application Performance Management ( APM ) - CA APM 9.7 . Following the lead of CA DevTest Team, I am challanging our CA APM team get into the holiday spirit and sing ( to the tune of the 12 days of Christmas) their way through the 12 days of CA APM 9.7 .

 

Let me kick it off with the first day of CA APM 9.7 ....

 

"On the first day of APM 9.7, the CA Team gave to me… an E.P.I.C. APM Strategy"

 

With the CA APM 9.7, CA Technologies today introduced the E.P.I.C. APM strategy, a solution that creates a competitive advantage in the App Economy by proactively managing the user experience. CA APM 9.7 is the first proof point in our E.P.I.C. APM strategy, starting an E.P.I.C. trend that will build with each new release.

E.P.I.C. APM delivers a solution that is Easy, Proactive, Intelligent and Collaborative (E.P.I.C.) across the application lifecycle. This means easy deployment of APM agents, including PHP, to get value in minutes. It means automatic visibility into each native mobile or web-based transaction. It means obtaining intelligence and insight of end-users’ interactions with your applications, from native mobile to mainframe.

 

Let me provide little more details about the E.P.I.C. strategy to ensure that it just not marketing gimmick . My APM teammates will provide more details in their songs during next twelve days...

 

E = Easy. We have several features built into APM 9.7 that speak to how we have simplified the product. One great example is how we have simplified the management and deployment of APM agents through a feature called the APM Command Center. With APM Command Center, agents can now be deployed and managed from a centralized command center within minutes.

 

P = Proactive i.e Proactively diagnose issues before any impact to the business and linking mobile transactions from the device to the mainframe backend. CA Mobile App Analytics gives you the ability to provide mobile performance monitoring. This product provides usage analytics, mobile performance analytics and crash analytics to quickly triage if the mobile app crashes. This is available in both SaaS as well as on-premise product and is seemelessly integrated with our APM 9.7 product. This integration into APM creates a Mobile-to-Mainframe APM solution providing end-to-end proactive monitoring for mobile transactions. Now, in the APM dashboard, you can view mobile transactions, along with real-user sessions and synthetic transactions in a single location.

 

I = Intelligent: An example of this features is the ability to automatically trace your transactions with Smart Instrumentation. This means we radically reduce the administrative burden of trying to trace every transaction. Smart Instrumentation only traces the transactions that are slow or have errors. It does this without you having to do anything. Benefit: it

watches what should be watched and when it should be watched. A great way to think of this is DVR or TiVo. You don’t’ want to record every single TV show, but just the ones that are of interest to you. Same thing with Smart Instrumentation. It automatically records transactions of interest to you, those that need attention. Smart instrumentation also means faster triage doesn’t require in-depth knowledge of the app.

 

C = Collaborative. APM acts as a catalyst to fuel collaboration across IT Ops thereby instilling continuous improvement in your organization. An example of this is our ability to integrate with our market leading release automation product , previously known to you as Nolio, there by giving our customers the ability to automatically instrument APM agents with Nolio to enable simple deployment from pre-production testing to production. APM 9.7 also enhances communication within Ops teams with Rich Email Notification that provides 1-click role relevant information into the alert and/or metric that is causing the problem. It provides more context to understand the alert more completely, explains actions that could be taken, and provides links to what is most relevant.

 

And, this means that E.P.I.C. APM acts as the catalyst for DevOps to fuel collaboration across the organization by providing a common vocabulary to analyze performance data, thereby instilling continuous performance improvements at every stage of the software lifecycle.
