Webcast - ADA Bounce Diagram and the Application Flow Diagram

By Melanie_Giuliani posted Dec 30, 2014 12:25 PM

Topic: Stuart_Weenig, will go over a generic example of a TCP transaction and how to analyze the transaction for application performance. He will also go into detail about his Application Flow Diagram template, the collection mechanisms necessary to set up collection and analysis of that generic application. These techniques have become the basis of Stuart's standard practice with respect to monitoring any application for performance. Learn what information to request from whom and why that information is crucial when configuring an application in ADA.

Q: How do you achieve this using riverbeds?

A: When using Cisco WAAS, the flow agent is embedded into the operating system. The capture and analysis of data is handled by the OS and a stream of data sent to ADA. With Riverbed, nothing is embedded into the OS. You will need to setup a collector to receive a copy of all traffic into and out of the Riverbed. For the data center Riverbed, SPAN the LAN/Server side to one NIC on the collector and SPAN the WAN (Rvb to Rvb) side to the other NIC on the collector. These NICs have special configurations. Instructions can be found in the documentation.

Q: If you have LAN set up with riverbed and SA on WAN how would you integrate it and get the most out of both

A: If you are referring to Riverbed's built in, competing product, there is no integration that I know of.

A: Yes, see answer to the first question.

Q: How many collectors do we need to monitor Cisco WAN?

A: I don't remember specifically, that's a good question to post on the community. kowma02 should be able to answer that. I have supported 1 data center WAAS with 10 or so remote WAAS on a standalone ADA, but that was a while ago.
