Are you new to the community? If so, welcome -- I'm glad you found us!

My name is LennThompson and I am the Community Manager supporting this community. Please feel free to reach out to me any time if you have questions or need help with anything here.

To help you get started and get the most out of your time here on the community, we've put together this "Getting Started" guide.

Be sure to Update Your Profile

After logging in to the community site, you’ll see a global drop down with a silhouette icon to the left of the search bar (if you already have a picture uploaded, you’ll see your picture instead). Open the drop-down menu and click on “Edit Profile.”  From the edit page, you can upload a picture or two, add your contact information, select an avatar that will be displayed in any posts/comments you create, and control your privacy settings. You can also add some of your skills/expertise from your main profile page so that other members can find you and identify your areas of expertise.

This video will walk you through the steps of updating your profile: CA Community GO! Setting Up Your Profile.

Connect with People and Communities
Now is a great time to get connected with other people and places that interest you. Follow friends, colleagues, partners or even network with people you don't know yet.  If you are a new member of the communities, be on the lookout for our New Member Webcast Events which will be posted in The Water Cooler Community. Another great place to visit is our Training community which has many how-to documents as well as tips and tricks for using the site.

Create a Stream

Streams are a great way to follow specific content. The default streams on the CA Communities homepage include an Activity Stream (all activity on all communities) and a Connections Stream (all activity from people/places you are following). There is also an option to create a custom stream where you can select certain people or places that you’d like to follow more closely. Click “+New Stream” from the navigation panel on the left side of the Home page to begin creating your custom stream. Once you create that Stream, you can default the stream as your homepage by clicking on the gear symbol, and selecting “Set as Home.” Streams are also a great tool for using the Jive Mobile App.

Check out this doc for more info on how to create a stream: Creating Custom Streams.

Important: Get emails for the content you are following

Click the down arrow next to your Avatar (top right of page) and click “Preferences.” Click the "On" button next to your custom streams or inbox in order to begin receiving email updates. You can also elect to receive a community digest which will provide you with periodic updates on places and content you are following. To do so, click on the frequency you'd like next to the "Community Digest" option in your preferences. More info on updating your preferences can be found here: Preferences.

Ask a Question or Answer a Question -- and Follow, Like, Share and Bookmark

Now that you are set up, visit the "Content" tab of the community to review questions posted by others (use the filters to find answered vs unanswered questions), or click on the pencil icon (top right) on the top grey banner to start your own discussion. When creating content, don't forget to add a product category. You can select a category by checking the box just above the "submit" button after you've selected the community. Adding a product category allows experts and other users to find your content more easily, and increases your chances of getting a response.

Submit and/or Vote on an Idea

You can access all Ideas by going to the “Content” page and then selecting the “Ideas” tab.  Open a specific idea to review the details, add a comment or vote it up or down. Your votes will help Product Management to determine how popular the idea is when deciding whether to implement it into the product. Interested in submitting an idea?

Watch this video for an overview on how to create one: Create and Submit an Idea within CA Communities

Download and use the Jive Mobile App
There is a mobile app that can be downloaded on all iOS or Android devices that will enable you to access the CA Communities right from your phone. Click here to learn more.

That's it -- I hope you find this useful. Again, if you have any questions or need any help, just let us know!

Ideas!

Posted by Nicole_Fagen Employee Feb 20, 2017

Dear CA Workload Automation Customers,

The CA team greatly enjoys hearing your ideas!  CA team members allocate time every week to review ideas.  When the team has questions on an idea, they may reach out directly to the individual who opened the idea, schedule a call with all the customers voted on the idea, raise the item for discussion at the end of a sprint review, leverage user groups or CA World ideation session to solicit additional feedback and clarity.  Our team works diligently to ensure due diligence on the investigation of every idea.  Ideas which align with the CA strategy, have high customer votes and clearly solve a customer use case are likely to move into plan.  Today, we have over 1300 ideas in communities for CA Workload Automation and we appreciate the thought put in to opening each one.

The CA teams have delivered over 150 ideas.  The ideas include UI enhancements, support for new configurations, new platforms, new databases, additional flexibility in behavior to solve a customer raised use case, security options and more.  To view all the ideas raised by customer and delivered by CA, in CA Communities -> Content -> Category -> select on the light bulb for ideas and state delivered.

We look forward to hearing more of your ideas and continuing to meet your business needs.

Best,

Nicole M. Fagen

Sr. Director, Product Management

Dear CA Workload Automation Customers,

I'd like to start by saying thank you for engaging with us and sharing your insights.  We value your feedback.  At CA, we believe it is mission critical for all team members engage with customers and we leverage every opportunity to make the connections happen.  This month the teams completed the reviews of the Net Promoter Score survey, NPS, and Customer Satisfaction surveys, CSAT.  CSAT surveys follow the closure of support cases and are specific to the case referenced in the survey.  The NPS survey is an annual and applies to the overall experience with the product and CA team.  CA initiated NPS surveys for CA Workload Automation AE and CA Workload Automation CA7 in 2016.

CA Workload Automation AE continued to improve for the third year in a row.  The team followed up personally with the 193 customers who provided their contact information within the NPS survey.  We attribute the increase to listening to customers.  For example, three years ago CA put an extreme focus on quality with focal efforts such as Running Like a Customer and improvements in automated test coverage.  During the Running Like a Customer initiative, CA brought in the workloads of 3 large customers to run in the CA lab 24x7 to minimize the likelihood of a defect “escaping” our lab.  The effort has paid dividends.  The focus continues today and continues to show positive results per customer feedback.  Responders highlighted the flexibility and stability of CA Workload Automation AE.  Our best opportunities to improve are to make documentation easier to find, as well as, to continue to focus on ease of install and upgrade.  We are listening and the team has put a plan in place to continue on both efforts.

CA Workload Automation CA7 NPS improved for the third year in a row too!  Responders highlighted CA7’s stability and the improvements to ease the 11.3 to 12.0 upgrade process.  Consistent with our conversations with most customers, responders highlighted the sensitivity to the rolling four hour average and desire to leverage zIIP processors.  Hence, the CA7 team will continue their focal effort to offload work to zIIPs.

The insights obtained from NPS and CSAT surveys were combined with customer feedback from sprint reviews, executive briefings, hosting customers to work from CA for a day, shadowing customers, conferences, CA communities and product advisory councils to identify the top needs for customers and help set our strategy going forward.

CA Workload Automation teams thrive on direct customer engagement.  At all levels, we observe an increase in passion to excel, speed of execution and pride in the outcome when we have close customer engagement.  To keep our close relationship with you, we encourage you to join CA sprint reviews to partner directly with the CA team on new development.  Please visit validate.ca.com to sign up today.  If you would like to connect directly with the CA team to discuss the needs of your enterprise, please contact your CA account team and we will gladly work with you to create an event to meet your needs.

On behalf of the entire CA Workload Automation team, thank you for your business and continued partnership.

Best,

Nicole M. Fagen

We started the Flipboard Cookbooks to give you, our customers, content that you can access on your mobile devices. That was three years ago! Now our CA sites are optimized for mobile access so we want to consolidate information and make it even easier for you to find what you need. Starting now, we will post tips, tricks, announcements, and other useful information in CA Workload Automation Communities. We will retire this Cookbook in November 2016.

Please join us in CA Workload Automation Community where you can see content from other CA employees and customers just like you. CA Communities provide a wealth of information and opportunities to interact and collaborate.

Thank you for following our CA Workload Automation Cookbook. See you in CA Workload Automation Community!

CA Workload Automation Community Members,

We thank you for your participation and engagement in this community. We know that you find it valuable – and we do too. We appreciate the feedback you offer us, within discussions and questions, but also as formal ideas that you submit via the site.

To improve our ideation process and set your expectations for how we’ll review those ideas, I wanted to define what ideation stage means and then outline how the CA Workload Automation team will work with you and your ideas going forward.

Ideation Stage definitions were communicated in The Water Cooler back in August 2014. Here’s a link to the original post: https://communities.ca.com/docs/DOC-231149845

This table outlines what each stage means and what’s possible within each:

StageDescriptionVoting
NewNew idea created by communityEnabled
DuplicateIdea already exists in the communityVote on Original Idea
Under ReviewCurrently under review by Product Management and product team.Enabled
Wish-listedUnder consideration, but lacks votes or otherwise not high enough priority to be planned for a releaseEnabled
Currently PlannedIncluded in the agile backlog and potentially listed on the roadmap for future release.Closed
DeliveredDelivered in a GA release. Not needed
Not PlannedIdea has been reviewed and will not be included in the productClosed

It is my team’s goal to review ideas monthly and have each idea move through the voting and comment cycle within 3 to 6 months. Some spaces have more active community members than others – so it is important to us that we strike a balance between the review cycle and our community members having a chance to review and vote.

In addition to activity here on the site, we review ideas with customers during sprint reviews, host conference calls with customers who submitted popular ideas to confirm and clarify what is needed, review top-ranked ideas with customers during in-person user group meetings and regularly seek further clarity during face to face customer briefings.  A recap of a recent customer meeting to discuss a CA Workload idea can be found here

Some helpful tips to make your ideas likely to stand out. Sharing a description of the enterprise challenge you are seeking to solve or pain point that you would like to eliminate will make it easier for other community members to relate and vote. Also, being open to what the end solution looks like is key.  Our R&D team members may have a different take on how to meet your business need. Hence, ideas which explicitly state how the resolution is to be implemented may not make it as far through the review as desired.

We will also always explain – with transparency – why we place an idea in “Not Planned” or “Wish Listed” status.

Hopefully this makes it clear how important your input it and how we plan to review and consider it going forward.

If you have questions or care to share your experience in one of our activities where we review ideas, please leave us a comment. We are proud of our Workload Automation products and committed to delivering high quality enterprise solutions.  We appreciate your partnership on our journey.

Best,

Nicole M. Fagen, Sr. Director, Product Management

Custom PDFs and ePubs

Posted by Nicole_Fagen Employee Aug 2, 2016

We are pleased to announce that custom PDFs and ePubs are now available on our DocOps sites!

Good morning and happy Monday! I just wanted to let you know about a new customer white paper that I thought you might find interesting. It covers The State of Oregon, Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) and how ETS was able to deliver 15% more services at 20% lower cost.

In the application economy, practically everyone consumes technology and most every company and government agency is in the software business. Strategic, responsive decisions are impacting IT infrastructure performance, reliability and scalability—including the security of the data we all rely upon. Making the best choices can empower your organization to act quickly and strategically, and surpass competitors.

By successfully managing its mainframe platform, the State of Oregon ETS has sparked the interest of other governments in partnering with or buying IT services from Oregon ETS. If such results can happen in an organization without profit motives, imagine the potential impact to your enterprise, including greater transactional density and economies of scale that create additional revenue and cost savings.

Learn how ETS educates buyers and customers on the critical role of mainframe IT operations and the proven value it provides
