Once a month we'll shine our virtual spotlight on one of the CA PPM community's members. It's just a fun, easy way for us to get to know one another a little bit beyond our work-related interactions here on the site. This month, we're featuring John George, Principal Information Services Engineer, Ca Technologies.

Location:  Ewing, New Jersey

Current Gig:  Principal Information Services Engineer (Information Architect). In this role, I wear many hats. First, I’m responsible for the overall design, delivery, and quality of the CA PPM documentation. In another, I support internal and external customers to ensure that documentation feedback is addressed in a timely manner. Finally, I’m a social advocate for the CA PPM documentation, the product, and the brand.

One word that describes how you work:  Passionate

How do you use CA Communities and any suggestions for others?

Every day I spend time on the CA PPM Community. Logging on and helping our customers maximize their CA Technologies solutions has become a daily ritual that is as natural to me as grabbing my morning cup of coffee. If I’m not in the community, discovering what’s top of mind for my customers, how can I possibly give them the product information they expect? That would be impossible.

As an Information Architect, it is my mission to give customers the content they want, when they want it, and in the form they want it. So, I’ve established a large presence within the CA PPM Community - where I:

  • Share initiatives, such as our CA PPM Cookbook and the great things we are doing with the CA PPM Documentation
  • Ask for feedback on what customers want to see in the documentation (where they are struggling with the documents, where there are gaps, and where they need improvement)
  • Make announcements when product documents are available for general consumption
  • Promote product features and new information
  • Participate in monthly Office Hours (or one-hour roundtables)
  • Republish expert product information gleaned from “Tuesday Tips”

I consider CA Communities a gateway to our customers. It’s how we find out what’s most important to them. It’s how we prove that we’re listening, we care, and we’re using their feedback to make improvements in both documentation and customer service. It’s how we bridge the divide between technical teams and end users, and socialize IT.

Mac or PC?
PC

Mobile Device?
  iPhone, iPad

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without?
iPhone, iPad, Confluence, Flipboard, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Hootsuite, GaggleAMP, the Notes app on my iPhone.

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget?
My iPod Classic 160 GB. I’m a music collector and lover!

What’s your daily work space like?
Cozy, but organized; with a mixture of the classic (traditional notepad with pen) and the new (iPad, iPhone, Laptop, Multiple Displays). See the attached picture (Daily Work Space.png)

How do you balance life/work?
It’s a delicate balance. When I’m at work, I’m all in. The same is true for my family, friends, and loved ones. You need time for both. I also need “me” time for stress release and decompressing; and that’s my gym time.

Best advice you can give and you have received?
The best advice I can give you is to find and follow your passion. Have integrity and be open, honest, and the best “you” that you can be. You have a chance every day to make a difference, so just do it!

The best advice I have received is to know who you are, understand your strengths and limitations, and to be o.k. with that.

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else?
Getting “stuff” done; the ability to receive, understand, and comprehend information from many sources and turn it around to deliver with speed.
