profile-image-display.pngOnce a month we'll shine our virtual spotlight on one of the CA PPM community's members. It's just a fun, easy way for us to get to know one another a little bit beyond our work-related interactions here on the site. This month, we're featuring Gene Greiff, from GGreiff Consulting.

Location:  Seattle, WA

Current Gig:  I am currently supporting a CA PPM implementation for a Federal Government customer.  In addition to this, I also provide support / implementations on a number of other Portfolio / Project Applications.

One word that describes how you work:  Whenever!  I don’t keep regular working hours and I think most of my best work is done between midnight and 4AM

How do you use CA Communities and any suggestions for others? After I booked my first CA PPM engagement, I needed to spin up quickly on the product. The CA Communities provided access to a wealth of information and the ability to connect other member’s experiences. What I find that sets CA Communities apart for other vendor communities (I belong to several others) are how vibrant it is.  My suggestion for others is not to lurk – get your ideas / questions posted and take advantage of what the CA Communities have to offer.

Mac or PC? A big, heavy and fully loaded Dell M6600 Windows 7 laptop, that is hosting CA PPM / MSSQL / Oracle and all the other applications that I support.

Mobile Device? Apple iPhone 6 – my work just gave it to me. I know little to nothing about Apple products but it make phone calls so I am happy!

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without? Visual Studio 2015, MSSQL Server, Oracle Database Server, Azure, Notepad++, SOAPUI, DevExpress and the JetBrains tool suite.

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget? Amazon Echo – I am playing around building new skills for her!

What’s your daily work space like?
Surrounded by hardware! Laptops from each customer scattered about. Windows 2012 and Red Hat test servers.  In the corner, I have an old system that I am thinking about using for a Raspberry PI development box. So many things to play with – I just need to retire so I can have more time!

How do you balance life/work? Bicycle Touring (rode across the US last summer – bucket list check). Kayaking (considering padding from Seattle to Alaska). Sailing (maybe a bigger boat to retire on!)

Best advice you can give and you have received? They can’t take your birthday away. It is better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else? Nothing, there is always someone out there that is better than me, knows more than me, thinks faster than me…,  I just hope I bump into them!
