FB_IMG_1441303558307.jpgOnce a month we'll shine our virtual spotlight on one of the CA Process Automation community's members. It's just a fun, easy way for us to get to know one another a little bit beyond our work-related interactions here on the site. This month, we're featuring Pier-Olivier Tremblay ITMS Tools Consultant- 165016_SSQ Vie Inc.

Location: Québec, Canada

Current Gig: I’m currently working on a training budget management tool using Catalog as the user interface for submitting training Request, and PAM as the engine to manage approval process and to keep Departement budget up to date. Everything is stored in a custom database and displayed to the management with SSRS.

One word that describes how you work: Party! (I work in the same way as I party! Hard and listening to electronic music. Yes, everyone ask me how I manage to listen to it all day long…)

How do you use CA Communities and any suggestions for others? I use CA Communities to get access to an amazing collection of powerful brains! I try to figure out everything by myself before asking out. And when I ask on the forum, I try to provide a context to help the other find a solution.

Mac or PC? PC

Mobile Device? Nexus 6P

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without? Notepad++

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget? My DJ Controller. (Yep, electronic music) and my Moto 360.

What’s your daily work space like? Monstruous laptop with 3 screens. Two incredible coworkers, one more mature and the other one always throwing out p*nis jokes…

How do you balance life/work? Unless major problem, or project delivery, work stops at 5pm!

Best advice you can give and you have received? Play out of your comfort zone.

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else? Make people laugh.

CA Technologies is continually working to improve our software and services to best meet the needs of our customers. This message is to inform customers of the impact that Microsoft’s announcement on August 7, 2014 to retire support for certain versions of Internet Explorer will have on your organization’s use of CA Process Automation

On August 7, 2014, Microsoft made a significant change in its Internet Explorer Support policy.  Effective TUESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2016, only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates. With regards to CA Process Automation, there are two potential sets of impacts:

The supported GA versions (PAM 4.3) of CA Process Automation is compatible with the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer (i.e. Microsoft Internet Explorer 11), and customers are encouraged to start using the same.

Customers can continue using the prior versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer that are noted as "supported" in the support matrices for supported version of CA Process Automation. However, after TUESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2016, CA Technologies will no longer provide any fixes, patches, service packs, updates, upgrades, programmatic changes or coverage for any issues resulting from such usage. Customers can continue to contact CA Support after TUESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2016, for basic configuration, usage, and troubleshooting of CA Process Automation with Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10 on an “as is” basis. If a workaround cannot be determined, the customer understands that their problem will be deemed “irresolvable.”

At this time, we encourage you to plan for the impacts listed above. As a reminder, CA Process Automation also supports versions of other browsers - Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome - as noted in the support matrices of the supported GA versions.

If you have any questions regarding the support schedule, please contact CA Process Automation Technical Support.

Your success is very important to us, and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership with you.

As you may have seen over in The Water Cooler (a community you should be following if you're not already), the CA Communities platform will be moving to the cloud in early November. The upgrade to the cloud version of the same platform we're on today offers myriad new features and functionality that I want you to be aware of before the move happens.

To get an overview, I'd recommend that you first read Tech Specs: Cloud is Coming -- a blog post by Melanie_Giuliani that steps through the differences.

Then, see the new version of the site in action by watching the replay of a demo Melanie hosted earlier this week: CA Communities Cloud Platform Demo (October 2015)

If you have any questions, please let us know.

This month, we're featuring Andrew Thompson Senior Support Engineer - CA Technologies.

Current Gig: Senior Support Engineer supporting Process Automation, EEM and Common Component Solution Support

One word that describes how you work: Systematically

How do you use CA Communities and any suggestions for others? I review Open Questions to see where I can contribute.  I would encourage everyone to get involved in the communities.  It is only great when there is lots of involvement.

Mac or PC? PC

Mobile Device? Android

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without? Weather Channel, IMDB, Gmail

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget? I actually won an Ipad Mini at a CA event.  Being a PC guy I thought I would hate it.  But surprisingly I have realized I now can’t live without it.  I still would not say I’m a Mac guy though.  

What’s your daily work space like? Very organized.  I can’t stand a messy desk.

How do you balance life/work? I try to turn off the “work brain” at the end of the day although that isn’t always easy.  I used to think about work through the night and learned quickly that doesn’t work so great.  Being present in your life is important.

Best advice you can give and you have received? Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else? I have been told that I am a very positive person and I try to see the good in others.

It's just a fun, easy way for us to get to know one another a little bit beyond our work-related interactions here on the site. Location:  ITC, Hyderabad, India

Current Gig:  Senior Services Consultant - Global Delievery

One word that describes how you work:  efficient

How do you use CA Communities and any suggestions for others?

I use it to build up my knowledge and skills on CA product, also sharing my knowledge with members on the community.

Suggestion - spend some time everyday looking at post by members and see if you can contribute. ALWAYS SEEK KNOWLEDGE.

Mac or PC? PC

Mobile Device? No

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without? One Note, SOAP UI

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget? iPOD

What’s your daily work space like? Photos, cheat sheets, name plaque

How do you balance life/work?  Being organized helps me balance my professional life and personal life.

Best advice you can give and you have received?

Best Advice Received - There is nothing as such called FAILURE. Its all about trying all the time.

Best Advice I Give - You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else? Well captured to do list according to priorities

Once a month we'll shine our virtual spotlight on one of the CA Process Automation community's members. It's just a fun, easy way for us to get to know one another a little bit beyond our work-related interactions here on the site. This month, we're featuring Elwynn Martin, Administering and Developing Service Catalog, IT PAM, and Service Desk for Auto-Owners Insurance.

Location: Lansing, MI

Current Gig:  Administering and Developing Service Catalog, IT PAM, and Service Desk for Auto-Owners Insurance.

One word that describes how you work: Methodical and thorough are 2 I’ve heard others use. I would say flexible, I try to handle both people and problems with grace and composure.

How do you use CA Communities and any suggestions for others?

I look for ideas about ways to improve our existing processes and configuration as well as asking other people for their ideas on how to solve problems. And when I can I enjoy helping others find answers to their problems.

Mac or PC?

PC, I’ve never found the Mac UI so much more intuitive or the machine so much better that I thought I just had to have one. I started learning Ubuntu last spring and that has helped me understand Macs and their users/fans better.

Mobile Device? Android, it’s far from new but it’s reliable and it does what I want it to. True story: I used a flip phone till Jan. 2012, so I still navigated using maps and printed directions. In the meantime my father, who taught me to read maps, started using a GPS in 2006. So there I was, a degreed developer(Bachelors in Computer Information Systems) who made a living administering IT systems still navigating using printed maps while my father, a technologically challenged high school graduate, had long ago moved on to GPS. 

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without? Android: waze and yelp are 2 I’ve used a long time. I’ve just started using MapMyRun. PC: NP++, SQL Server Studio, and SoapUI are the main ones I develop with.

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget?

I guess I’m not much of a gadget person because I couldn’t think of any that I own beyond the gadgets that came in my car. The backup camera and touchscreen infotainment system with usb and aux inputs are the latest gadgets I’ve learned to use. I am entertaining the idea of joining the fit bit craze, does that count? 

What’s your daily work space like?

Relatively Spartan compared to most, I don’t really ‘decorate’ the space I work in. I probably keep work and life separated a little more than most thanks to reading ‘they don’t teach corporate in college’ while working on my Bachelors.

How do you balance life/work?

I try to leave work at work when I leave for the day, though I can’t tell you the number of lunch hours I’ve spent thinking about the problem I’ve spent the forenoon trying to solve.

Best advice you can give and you have received?

Advice to give: Relationships are always more important than, and often outlast, systems and technologies; don’t sacrifice tomorrows good working relationships on the altar of today’s technologies and systems. Advice I’ve received: Even when you love what you do, there will still be days when you dislike the tasks you’re required to do. My mentor shared that with me about his 50+ year career, so far my experience has proven him right 

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else?

Combining an in depth technical understanding of how these systems work with the ability to understand the thinking and emotions behind the requests we receive from stakeholders for additions and modifications to the system.  The intersection of systems and relationships is the real challenge of the job, balancing the request in front of you with the impact to all the stakeholders of the system and then communicating to whomever the how and why of often complex technical decisions.

Once a month we'll shine our virtual spotlight on one of the CA Process Automation community's members. Location: Hyderabad, India

Current Gig:  Sr. Product Manager

One word that describes how you work:  Reliable

How do you use CA Communities and any suggestions for others? I have all my announcements and updates made through communities. This is the place where I get a chance to look at how my product is being used in different CREATIVE styles. The ideation process enables us to generate part of our product backlog which is very helpful. My sincere advice is to use communities to full extent and reap the benefits

Mac or PC? PC

Mobile Device? Android (hate iTunes)

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without? Sticky notes to free up my mind, social media apps for keeping up with my friends

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget? ipod

What’s your daily work space like? Cubicle with lots of friends around me. A coffee cup which says “Go the Unbeaten path” and some idols. I am very religious 

How do you balance life/work? Try to do smart work rather than hard work and take time out whenever possible. I try to forget everything when I am out of office but my mobile always beeps  “You have got an email”

Best advice you can give and you have received? Try to make environment around you very lively and I am known for that 

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else? I first try to convince but if the other side is very stubborn then I try to confuse and win the battle.

Are you new to the CA Process Automation Community? If so, welcome -- I'm glad you found us!

My name is LennThompson and I am the Lead CA Community Manager supporting this community. I'd also like to introduce you to my colleague, CJ Schuman who is also a Community Manager supporting DevTest. Please feel free to reach out to either of us at any time if you have questions or need help with anything here.

To help you get started and get the most out of your time here on the community, we've put together this "Getting Started" guide.

Be sure to Update Your Profile

After logging in to the community site, you’ll see a global drop down with a silhouette icon to the left of the search bar (if you already have a picture uploaded, you’ll see your picture instead). Open the drop-down menu and click on “Edit Profile.”  From the edit page, you can upload a picture or two, add your contact information, select an avatar that will be displayed in any posts/comments you create, and control your privacy settings. You can also add some of your skills/expertise from your main profile page so that other members can find you and identify your areas of expertise.

This video will walk you through the steps of updating your profile: CA Community GO! Setting Up Your Profile.

Connect with People and Communities
Now is a great time to get connected with other people and places that interest you. Follow friends, colleagues, partners or even network with people you don't know yet.  If you are a new member of the communities, be on the lookout for our New Member Webcast Events which will be posted in the The Water Cooler Community. Another great place to visit is our Training community which has many how-to documents as well as tips and tricks for using the site.

Create a Stream

Streams are a great way to follow specific content. The default streams on the CA Communities homepage include an Activity Stream (all activity on all communities) and a Connections Stream (all activity from people/places you are following). There is also an option to create a custom stream where you can select certain people or places that you’d like to follow more closely. Click “+New Stream” from the navigation panel on the left side of the Home page to begin creating your custom stream. Once you create that Stream, you can default the stream as your homepage by clicking on the gear symbol, and selecting “Set as Home.” Streams are also a great tool for using the Jive Mobile App.

Check out this doc for more info on how to create a stream: Creating Custom Streams.

Important: Get emails for the content you are following

Click the down arrow next to your Avatar (top right of page) and click “Preferences.” Click the "On" button next to your custom streams or inbox in order to begin receiving email updates. You can also elect to receive a community digest which will provide you with periodic updates on places and content you are following. To do so, click on the frequency you'd like next to the "Community Digest" option in your preferences. More info on updating your preferences can be found here: Preferences.

Ask a Question or Answer a Question -- and Follow, Like, Share and Bookmark

Now that you are set up, visit the A Process Automation content area to review questions posted by others (use the filters to find answered vs unanswered questions), or click on the pencil icon (top right) on the top grey banner to start your own discussion. When creating content, don't forget to add a product category. You can select a category by checking the box just above the "submit" button after you've selected the community. Adding a product category allows experts and other users to find your content more easily, and increases your chances of getting a response.

Submit and/or Vote on an Idea

You can access all Ideas by going to the “Content” page and then selecting the “Ideas” tab.  Open a specific idea to review the details, add a comment or vote it up or down. Your votes will help Product Management to determine how popular the idea is when deciding whether to implement it into the product. Interested in submitting an idea?

Watch this video for an overview on how to create one: Create and Submit an Idea within CA Communities

Download and use the Jive Mobile App
There is a mobile app that can be downloaded on all iOS or Android devices that will enable you to access the CA Communities right from your phone. Click here to learn more.

That's it -- I hope you find this useful. Again, if you have any questions or need any help, just let us know!

Regards,

LennThompson
