Once a month we'll shine our virtual spotlight on one of the CA Service Management community's members. It's just a fun, easy way for us to get to know one another a little bit beyond our work-related interactions here on the site. This month, we're featuring Jon Israel Principal Support Engineer, CA Technologies.

Location: I work in the Islandia, NY office for CA, and I live in Franklin Square, NY

Current Gig:  Principal Support Engineer for the CA Service Management family of products – focused on CA Service Desk Manager

One word that describes how you work: Action – make it happen!

How do you use CA Communities and any suggestions for others? I use the communities as a venue and mechanism to get out there and talk with customers.  I like to read about what customers are trying to do, and how they are using the products.  I spend some time at the start of every work day going through the posts and answering what I can.  It’s a great way for customers to talk to each other, and share experiences, and tips/tricks for getting the most value out of the products.  It is also a great way to keep up with what’s going on in the customer world as well as internally.

Mac or PC?

Both! I use a mac at home for the most part, along with my iPhone and iPad, they work together nicely. I do also have several Windows machines at home too which I use for different things.  At work, I am a Windows guy, working mostly on Windows Server environments.

Mobile Device? iPhone and iPad

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without? Shared Google Calendar (shared between my wife and I to keep track of things), AnyList – a shared shopping list app, and Pandora – I love music!

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget? I have several - Audio systems, Cars, Cameras

What’s your daily work space like? I like a clean workspace without any clutter – I hate clutter!  I work from my CA laptop which sits on a docking station connected to three monitors.  I love having the three monitors – it allows me to multi-task and get a lot more done while keeping an eye on the things I need to monitor.

How do you balance life/work? Ahhh – the Golden Question!  My wife and I both work full time and long hours.  My wife travels about 30% for work, so this balance is always a tough game for us having a 4 year old in pre-k.  We have it down to a science these days by planning out about a month at a time if possible so we know who has to do what, and when, and who has to be where and when, hence the google calendar. Out of all the people we know in similar situations, I have to admit that we are a pretty good team, and are always able to make it happen

Best advice you can give and you have received? Always be infectiously positive.  – Someone once told me that a long time ago.  I live by it and share it with others too.  People always remember the negative, but only sometimes remember the positive – so be infectiously positive!  Negativity breeds too quickly!!

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else? Multi-Tasking, Making Lemonade when someone hands me lemons, and organizing chaos.
