What’s New in Test Data Manager 4.2

We are pleased to announce the General Availability of CA Test Data Manager 4.2. The new version can be downloaded from CA Support site.

What’s New in CA TDM?

New: Simplified Test Data Find & Reserve: TDM Portal Test Data Find and Reserve feature let you manage the full lifecycle of finding and reserving data from a simple UI. Test Data Engineers define Test Data Models, that testers, in turn, can then use to find the required data and reserve for their use. Reserved data can then be quickly released by the tester with a single click.

Testers will be notified when test data is reserved via email as shown below:

New:  Virtual Test Data Management (vTDM)

vTDM provides Testers with instant access to testing data, a markedly reduced footprint and the ability to create a virtually unlimited number of data Clones. This enables Testers to work independently on virtual copies of the same test data, avoiding the contention which can occur when using shared environments. Currently, we support MSSQL as a database technology with a plan in the future to extend to other DB technologies.

In vTDM, Test Data Engineers have a quick and easy way to view return on investment while also managing the various checkpoints created for the different Filesystems. Test Data Engineers always remain in control of the clones created by all Testers. Test Data Engineers have a simple interface to create, delete and hide checkpoints. They can monitor the number clones created, so they can delete checkpoints that are not in use.

Testers are able to create new Clones in a familiar environment and not be distracted by Clones created by other Testers and Projects.

New: Enterprise Mode for Publish in TDM DataMaker

With this release, Test Data Engineers are able to generate large scale test data faster using the TDM Portal publish engine directly from TDM DataMaker. Test Data Engineers can choose between the DataMaker built-in and TDM Portal Enterprise level publish at job submission time. The enterprise mode can also be used for Batch and Remote mode.

New: TDM Mainframe enhancements to DB2 file shredding

With the release of Test Data Manager 4.2, Test Data Engineers can define tables in DB2 to hold mainframe file data.  Test Data Engineers can then load data into the tables from a file or generate data in them using DataMaker.  Once the tables are populated a batch job can be run to extract data and create a file from it. This simplifies the process for mainframe file generation.

There are many more new capabilities that you can find more details here.
