What CA Product Community you are most engaged in?

Infrastructure Management -> Network Flow Analysis

Why do you feel engagement with peers in the Communities is so important?
It is a great way for me as a CA Employee and Support Engineer to see how our customers use our products, and a great way for me to get information out that may help our customers avoid problems or resolve them quickly without the need to open a Support case.  It is also a great way for me to build relationships with customers.  I also see great ideas on the communities which I can feed back to Development and Product Management.

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without?
Notepad ++, Wireshark, Process Explorer, MySql, CA RemoteEngineer, and CA NFA

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget?
Samsung Smart TV with built in 4k YouTube, NetFlix, and Amazon Prime

What’s your daily work space like?
Three monitors, a wireless mouse, and a giant CA rubber band ball

How do you balance life/work?

I look to get the most out of my weekends and time off.  I look to get up and out instead of being tied to a computer when I am off.  I leverage our ability to work from home to help balance life/work.

Outside of work what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy being outdoors and doing some hiking, going to the beach, spending time in Pennsylvania on the lake, going for a drive, or going to the city and exploring Central Park.  I enjoy watching sports mostly baseball (NY Mets -unfortunately), football (KC Chiefs), and basketball.

What CA Product Community you are most engaged in?

CA PPM. Formerly known as Clarity

Why do you feel engagement with peers in the Communities is so important? When I was consulting in other technologies (Application Performance Monitoring, and service desks) there seemed to be an attitude of information greed. A lot of the consultants would not share knowledge, even within their own teams or organizations. What has impressed me about the CA PPM global community is the willingness to share knowledge. By all of us engaging with each other and sharing knowledge, we elevate everyone ability to utilize their respective solutions and increase our own education.

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without? Notepad++, Skype, Captivate, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, my cameras and finally my hammer. No matter how much technology I have to deal with, I always need a hammer fro the non-technology repairs, and it reminds me to teach my children to learn basic repair skills and not rely solely on technology.

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget? Hmmm, up until my torn Achilles healed I would have to say my tablet, now that I am cleared to run, I must say my 15 year old MP3 player for when I run. It is 15 years old, but still works like new.

What’s your daily work space like? I have two work spaces. My home office with 3 server, KVM with three screens, 2 laptops, and a couple of tablets, and my new office at work which I am moving into tomorrow.

How do you balance life/work? I do not live on the edge, I only sleep there. With 3 kids (13, 9, 5) it is a struggle. Work is highly demanding due to recent re-orgs, and shifting priorities, and home with 3 kids can also be quite daunting. I adopted an I don't care attitude.  Do not get me wrong, and this is not in a negative sense, if something goes wrong at work that is out of my control, I will do what I can to fix it, but in the end I will not let it tie me up in knots. Likewise, if something goes wrong at home like the kids flood the bathroom, we'll all clean it up together, use it as a teachable moment, and as long as nobody got hurt I wont let it bug me. Most people worry about things they cannot control, for those things, I do not care.  I care about my job, my co-workers, family, but if something goes wrong, I accept it and move on.  Getting all worked up over it, does no good.

Outside of work what do you enjoy doing? Running, Squash, biking, photography, reading, spending time with my kids, cooking, learning new things.Doing extreme things, axe throwing.

Why do you feel engagement with peers in the Communities is so important?

It reminds me of my favorite song  “Lean on Me” we all need help from time to time and the communities gives a place to share ideas, reach out to others when we are struggling with an initiative or a technical issue. We support, share and lend a helping hand.

A hot mess!  I have three computers, printer and papers all over the place but trust me I am focused and organized.

I don’t which is why I walk around with my work phone and personal phone. I make sure I have loads of fun while focusing on my work.

What CA Product Community you are most engaged in?

CA Infrastructure Management first, followed by CA eHealth in a close second

Why do you feel engagement with peers in the Communities is so important?

Knowledge and information sharing, improved engagement and involvement by personalizing these experiences that make us more than names, it makes us real people. Would you rather interact with a person, or a computer? I’m sure most all of us would lean toward a real person.

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without?

At work UltraEdit32, mRemote, remote sharing tools, any screen shot tool and ServiceCloud for case management.

Personally, forums as without them and the enthusiast communities out there our hobbies would be a lot less fun. Of course also Facebook for family and friend communication, Tap-A-Talk app for staying in touch with forum communities on the go, Kindle reader, Netflix, Keep, Google Maps and Waze, and other tools for tablets and smartphones that make our lives easier.

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget?

It’s a strange toss up. Not sure if it is my personal tablet, or my mechanics Torque Wrenches. Being a ‘shade tree’ mechanic doing all my own work on the motorcycles my wife and I ride, properly tightened fasteners are critical not just to the function of the machine, but more importantly in many instances to our personal safety and survival, quite literally. You never want to see the large nut holding the front wheel axle on go flying past you while on the move!!

What’s your daily work space like?

Your standard CA cubicle 4 days a week, home one day a week with a small home office space made more relaxing with a nice lake view across the street and a black lab named Salem at my feet.

How do you balance life/work?

The first thing that comes to mind is that sometimes it means saying no to ensure I’m home at a decent hour. More often it means getting an early start to the day, putting my head down, working through lunch and making any other necessary sacrifices to ensure my work is completed for the day, to ensure I can close the day at the right time of day, knowing nothing fell through the cracks.

Outside of work what do you enjoy doing?

Being home for playtime with my son before bed, walks with my English Black Lab Salem, riding my motorcycle alone or with my wife on her bike, driving the ski boat, Trap shooting and watching movies.

What CA Product Community you are most engaged in?

The CA Service Management Community

Why do you feel engagement with peers in the Communities is so important?

It’s a great opportunity for CA Employees and Customers to interact, share ideas, and collaborate with each other.  I’ve learned so much from the suggestions I’ve seen posted, and thought of things in a new way.

Apps/software/tools you can’t live without?

Outlook, Firefox, Chrome, Notepad++

Besides your phone and computer, what's your favorite gadget?

I don’t have as much time to use it as I’d like, but I’d say the Wii U is really fun

What’s your daily work space like?

I have a laptop connected to a docking station with two monitors. I also enjoy collecting silly chachkies and signs which clutter my desk.

How do you balance life/work?

I don’t have a smartphone, which helps to separate my home time from work. On the flip side once the kids are all in bed for the evening I usually check and respond to emails which can help to get a jump on things instead of waiting until the next day.

Outside of work what do you enjoy doing?

My family is a priority for me, so when I’m not at work a majority of time is spent with them. I’m an active member of my church, where I also assist with some of the audio/visual. I love movies, music, video games, board games, and my latest adventure is trying figure out the best way to improve the look of my lawn.
