Following a piece of content, a person, or a place is the easiest way to stay up-to-date on all activity taking place there. In the CA Communities, you have several different options for how you'd like to follow an item. Two different ways to follow a piece of content, person, or community are through your connections stream, custom streams, or your inbox.

Following something via a stream will populate all activity for any items you follow into a comprehensive activity stream that can be viewed from the front page. You also have the option to turn email notifications on or off for each of your streams (this can be done through your Preferences). In addition to your connections stream, users also have the option to create custom streams that only track activity for specific communities or people. For more information on how to set up a custom stream, please see Creating Custom Streams.

Choosing to follow an item via inbox (which can be found on the left navigation of the CA Communities homepage) will notify you directly of any activity taking place with a person, community, or piece of content you've followed. These notifications will show up on the top navigation (next to your global drop down), and specific information related to those notifications will be sent directly to your inbox. As a default, inbox notifications will also be routed to your registered email. For more information on email notifications, please see the Preferences document.

You can choose whether you'd like to follow a specific item via the following stream, custom stream, or inbox by clicking on "Follow." From there, a pop-up will appear prompting you about where you would like to follow the item. Simply click on the option you'd like, and click "Done" to begin following that item.
