If your passive instance was looking at the onboard management nic and you started packet capture on that passive instance, it would have no effect on the active instance monitoring the 10Gb card. If your passive instance was looking at your 10Gb nic, then it would have an impact on your active instance IF the passive instance performs either a Packet Capture or runs a Statistical Mode or dose both.

EXAMPLES:

Example 1 - If you have 1 active instance monitoring the 10Gb card and it is only capturing data (either for the GigaStor or via Packet Capture) and:

-
1 passive instance monitoring the 10gb card does not run Packet Capture or any Statistics, the MAX utilization that the card can receive before you see drops is 20Gb/sec.
-
1 passive instance monitoring the 10gb card only runs Packet Capture, the MAX utilization that the card can receive before you see drops is ~10Gb/sec.
-
1 passive instance monitoring the 10gb card only runs any Statistics, the MAX utilization that the card can receive before you see drops is ~10Gb/sec.
-
1 passive instance monitoring the 10gb card runs Packet Capture and any Statistics, the MAX utilization that the card can receive before you see drops is ~5Gb/sec.

If you have more than 1 passive instance monitoring the 10Gb card, any time Packet Capture or Statistics is started, it cuts in half the maximum throughput of the card.

Example 2: If you have 1 active instance monitoring the 10Gb card and it is only capturing data (either for the GigaStor or via Packet Capture) and:

-
3 passive instance monitoring the 10gb card and none of them were running Packet Capture or any Statistics, the MAX utilization that the card can receive before you see drops is 20Gb/sec.

Example 3: If you only had 1 active instance and no passive instances and:

-
Active instance runs Packet Capture/GigaStor OR any Statistics, the MAX utilization that the card can receive before you see drops is 20Gb/sec.
-
Active instance runs Packet Capture/GigaStor AND any Statistics, the MAX utilization that the card can receive before you see drops is ~10Gb/sec.
