The NV Console has Device Alias and Device Name.
Why both and what is the difference?
Device Alias is used as the display name in both the Console tree and reports.
Device Name is used for polling.
Typically users identify devices via a name and not an IP address so it is helpful to have Device Alias show a name for the device.
NV polls via IP Address. If Device Name is set for something other than the IP Address an nslookup is done to obtain the address, and this happens prior to every poll. So there is an advantage to having Device Name set for the IP Address.
Both are set in the Console at > Config > Discovery > Device Naming Parameters.
