Migrating users from a UNIX host to Active Directory simplifies user and group management on UNIX hosts, by consolidating management tasks into a single management application.

After you migrate UNIX users into Active Directory you control access to the UNIX hosts and no longer need to maintain the password or shadow files on each UNIX host.

Create a group and user in Native environment

This is the machine where UNAB is installed

Create the same user in AD

This is the Active Directory machine to which UNAB is registered

Migrate the group user pair

One may ask what are we migrating as the user was already created in AD. Here we are migrating specific attributes related to the user, home directory, the login shell, Primary group, User ID. And also the group gets created in the AD.

It is not mandatory to do a group user pair migration always there are other options but it is recommended.

Create a file to mention what needs to be migrated

Perform migration

Check the migration result in native

Check the migration results in AD

Before migration the tab “CA ControlMinder Unix Attributes” was blank. The values get populated by the migration process.
