1. CA Unified Infrastructure Management 8.31 was released on August 14, 2015.

CA Unified Infrastructure Management 8.31 includes new features to enhance the user experience, increase reporting capabilities, and tighten the integration with NFA. The 8.31 release also meets new, more stringent quality standards that have been adopted in order to increase customer satisfaction and better meet customer needs.

This release includes:

  • CA Unified Infrastructure Management Server (the core application engine)
  • Unified Management Portal (web interface)
  • Unified Reporter (advanced reporting engine)

This release contains powerful new features outlined below in addition to usability enhancements, performance improvements, and defect fixes.

Aliasing of Devices and Elements:

  • UIM now supports customizable aliases for devices and interfaces.
  • A device or interface alias can be added or edited from the details panel in USM.
  • Groups can be created based on device or interface aliases.
  • USM and the analysis reports can be customized to use the alias as the primary device or interface label

Saving and Scheduling of Analysis Reports:

  • Report configurations can now be named and saved for retrieval and execution on an ad-hoc basis. This simplifies reporting and streamlines the repeated execution of frequently run reports.
  • Analysis reports can be scheduled using the Report Scheduler. This allows for automated report generation and distribution of reports via email or ftp.

Ability to save HTML Dashboards to PDF:

  • UIM now includes this customer requested feature for PDF output of a live HTML Dashboard.
  • Provides a simple method to capture the current dashboard for distribution or archival.
  • Built in scheduler enables dashboard distribution to non-UIM users via email and/or ftp.

USM Integration with NFA:

  • Type of Service (ToS) data views in context for an interface inside of USM- The new ToS views are located on the “Advanced Tab” and include Stacked ToS trend In/Out and Top Host/Conversation per ToS.
  • Support for Single Sign-on when drilling out from UIM to NFA - Users will no longer be prompted for authentication when drilling out from UIM to NFA when both products are configured using the following configuration methods: LDAP, SAML2, Dual Provisioned User
  • Support for UIM Multi-tenancy -  NFA R9.3.2 is now compatible with UIM multi-tenancy for reporting and drill-out.

Enhanced Database Support:

  • Enhanced database compatibility for Oracle 12, the most current version of the Oracle database family.
  • Reference pluggable databases for compartmentalized schemas in Oracle 12.
  • For MySQL, root privileges are no longer required for database creation and usage
  • Improved error handling during database setup and configuration on installation

2. CA Unified Infrastructure Management Probe SDK 2.1.1 was released on August 6, 2015.

This SDK and tutorials allow partners to quickly develop standard Java based monitoring probes, in an architecturally compliant manner. The SDK simplifies probe development by implementing the infrastructure part of a probe so a partner can focus on code specific to gathering metrics and topology. The tutorials and knowledgebase articles provide a systematic introduction to developing probes with the SDK.

Support for Bulk Configuration

The SDK provides the classes to implement probes supporting elastic configuration at scale (bulk) similar to the UIM Probes.

Improved upgrade experience

The SDK follows standard Maven conventions and ships as an easy to install zip file. Upgrading is as easy as uploading the new artifacts and pointing the pom file to the new versions. As each version is preserved in the inventory, developers can also revert back to previous versions.

Enhanced documentation

The SDK documentation has been reorganized for readability and javadocs have been added for the public classes.

Web based tutorials and knowledge base articles

New video tutorials introduce developing probes with the Probe SDK starting from a Hello World to sophisticated examples. The tutorials cover developing, building, testing and packaging probes. Knowledge base articles provide additional background, best practices and take the developer through code examples in more detail.
