My question is: Is it impossible to consolidate a report between SAM and APM if I want to know what we bought (APM) and what we have(SAM)?
If I want to have a consolidated report from APM + SAM to match the agentsinstalled on hardware with the contract data (don’t know what it is actually, copied from my boss' mesage). But the tech guys here say it is almost impossible..... The main reasonexplained by the tech guys was because the unit of measurement in SAM is notthe same as the unit of measurement in APM. The tech guy also created a verycomplicated picture which I have attached in this message explaining why it isnot possible. I am not expecting a solution here, but just interested to knowmore why it is not possible (because everything should be possible, right? ). Please share your ideas here. Lol, Thanks a lot people on the other side of theworld, woohoo.
As long as APM and SAM databases are in sync you would need to run a report on the SAM side to get the information you're looking for. Is there any particular set of data that resides only on the SAM side which demands a more complicated report?
I am not too sure I got what your requirement is so you might need to elaborate a little bit more on that.
Thanks for your reply. I think the management wants to have a report that show what they actually have (usage) and what they actually bought. For example, they bought 10 PC and used 7 of them and they want to know there is 3 not being used. I guess they want to check what is not being used. They believe that SAM could show what they have already and APM can show what they bought, so it will be very easy to get a report. But, the problem is the way SAM tracks the quantity is different than APM. Also, I input the information into APM manually according to the quotations or invoices, so I know it will be hard to match SAM's data with APM. because there isnt a standard to input the quantity part for APM, most analysts just input the quantity according the invoices. I welcome any suggestions. Thanks thanks.
Can you let us know where (for what company) these applications are installed?
SAM does not have a Boxi Universe; but a Extended Universe could be that answer, as the Extended universe allows for linking 2 data sources.
The Link to the SAM object can be linked on al_discovered_hardware SAM ID and that reconciles links.
It is for Daiwa Capital Market Hong Kong. What is an extended universe??
An Extended Universe allows for the linking of 2 data sources. You may want to contact your account manager to see if this could be handled as a Services engagement for the CA SAM and ITAM products.
Thank you so much for your reply. I will contact my agent and see what we can do from there. Thanks.
