CA Data Protection Tech Tip by Andrew Devine, Senior Support Engineer for 25 November 2015
A user attribute (Userattr) lookup can detect e-mails sent to or from CA Data Protection (DataMinder) users with specific account attributes. In order to complete these lookups the client must be able to contact its parent server. If the parent server is not available the lookup fails with an error like the one below:
Nov 24, 2015 12:51:08 PM mydomain\auser E0F43 Data lookup for trigger 'Controlled Sent E-mail: Recipient 1 (Info Boundary)' failed. See the following message for details...
Nov 24, 2015 12:51:08 PM mydomain\auser E0F46 Data lookup failed with error '0xe563f806 (Message cannot reach destination. The server does not exist or is not able to receive messages. )'.
If the policy control action for data lookup failure is set to "Do not trigger", this mail will be sent. To mitigate this you can set the Data Lookup Failure mode to “Block Event (Client Only)”. If a client endpoint agent is processing the email, CA Data Protection always blocks the email with an accompanying notification message. This message is defined by the Terminate E-mail Processing settings. Find these settings in the System Settings, User Notifications folder.
After the block popup is displayed the only option is to close the message which stores it in the Outlook "Drafts" folder ready to be resent when the parent server is available again.
