CA Data Protection Tech Tip by Andrew Devine, Senior Support Engineer for 30 November 2015

When you install the Event Importer (Via CA Data Protection Server Agents -> Bloomberg and IM Support), the Event Import service ("wgnimpsv.exe") is installed automatically.  If required, you can use this service for continuous import operations.

Before you can start using "wgnimpsv.exe", you must configure the service. "Wgnimpsv.exe" requires a configuration file, "import.ini", containing the import parameters. You need to create and save this file the same folder as "wgnimpsv.exe". In addition to the parameters required for the import job, the "import.ini" file must also specify continual importing. To enable this, add the line:

File.ContinuousInput=yes

To avoid storing the CMS credentials in the .ini file (which would represent a security loophole), you can configure "wgnimpsv.exe" to securely cache the credentials itself. To do this, use the following command line syntax:

wgnimpsv.exe -setcredentials

This opens a new command window where you can enter a valid username and password.

You can reset these credentials by running the following command:

wgnimpsv.exe -clearcredentials

Notes:

After "wgnimpsv.exe" has started, any subsequent changes to "import.ini" will only take effect after you restart the service.
