Workload Automation

Heads-up: CA Common Components and Workload Automation AE (r11.3 ~ r11.3.6 SP2) upgrade to the latest 11.3.6 SP3

Feb 03, 2016 01:04 AM

Environment: Applies to all platforms supported by CA Workload Automation AE Release 11.3.6 SP3.

Scenario: If any of the following CA Common Components are installed on the CA Workload Automation AE (r11.3 through Release 11.3.6 SP2) scheduler or application server host and you want to upgrade CA Common Components to Release 11.3.6 SP3 first followed by CA Workload Automation AE Release 11.3.6 SP3:

  • CA, Inc. Common Communications Interface (CAICCI)
  • Event Management (Manager or Agent)
  • CA Secure Socket Adapter (SSA)
  • CA Embedded Entitlements Manager (CA EEM)

Caveat: Upgrading CA Common Components Release 11.3.6 SP3 upgrades CAPKI to 5.0.2. CA Workload Automation AE Release 11.3.6 SP3 requires CAPKI 5.0.2. However, CA Workload Automation AE r11.3 through Release 11.3.6 SP2 does not fully support CAPKI 5.0.2 and so consider the following points when performing the upgrade:

  • CA Common Components Release 11.3.6 SP3 and CA Workload Automation AE Release 11.3.6 SP3  must be upgraded in succession.
  • When you upgrade CA Common Components Release 11.3.6 SP3, ensure that you do not select the Automatic Start Start CCI following installation option (see screenshot below) so that the CA Workload Automation AE (r11.3 through Release 11.3.6 SP2) services do not automatically start after the upgrade is complete. If the CA Workload Automation AE services start (automatically or manually) after the upgrade is complete, the scheduler, application server, and agent (if configured with port multiplexing Dylan socket) fail to interact with CA Secure Socket Adapter and this results in binding to physical ports in port-range 49152-50176.

Note: The "Automatic Start Start CCI following installation." option is NOT selected.

  • If you are upgrading CA Common Components silently using the response file, ensure that the following parameters are included in the response file:

ASI_SHUT_YES=0
CCI_Startup=0

  • CA Workload Automation AE (r11.3 through Release 11.3.6 SP2) may also fail to connect to CA EEM after the CA Common Components Release 11.3.6 SP3 upgrade is complete, due to CAPKI5 incompatibility.
