Description:

Red Hat Linux 2.6 Fresh install of 9.5 MOM 64bit, 24 GIG Memory

When running installer in console mode, we see an error below and are unable to complete the install:

Status: FATAL ERROR Additional Notes: FATAL ERROR - The Installer has failed due to an Unhandled Exception java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment.

Solution:

The DISPLAY variable is used in Linux based environments for opening additional windows, usually for graphics. In non-graphics terminals, setting the DISPLAY variable will give rise to an exception, since the terminal is not meant to support graphics. For that reason, in non-graphics terminals, you need to unset the DISPLAY variable. The X11R6 libraries are for graphics based environments and are NOT required during console mode installation. Unsetting the DISPLAY variable usually helps gets past this error to proceed with install.
