Office Hours - CA Performance Management - March 17, 2017

Mar 17, 2017 03:16 PM

from Diogo Almeida to Everyone:

Question #1: can I add attributes to a component? IE. I can get the AP channel number and the serial number, these attributes are not pollable so, I want save them into the component characteristics.

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Hi Diogo - We do not yet support custom attributes on Components. We do support it on Interface and Devices.

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

For reference the instructions for custom attributes on supported elements is found here.

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

https://docops.ca.com/ca-performance-management/3-0/en/create-custom-attributes-354253407.html

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Please submit an Idea to the communities to gather additional feedback to help Product Management prioritize within the backlog.

from Diogo Almeida to Everyone:

Question #2: why the Mobile Stations are WLANs in Cisco cert and in Aruba are the AP Radios?

from Catalin to Everyone:

What's the ETA for 3.1?

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Hi Catalin - End of March.

from Suzanne Macaluso to Everyone:

question came in that asked for information about the migration from eHealth to CA PM... You can find information via this link https://communities.ca.com/community/ca-infrastructure-management/performance-management/pages/upgrade-to-pm

from Diogo Almeida to Everyone:

Question #3: we have multiple metric families for Aruba Wireless Controllers.

Mobile Stations

Mobile Switch Stations

Mobile Switch Access Point

Mobile WLAN Access Point

After try all of them the results are almost the same, the difference is that each metric familiy reads one table (from two MIBs), there is no correlation (a MIB cross-table).

From one single point we cannot have all the info regarding the Radios, for example, they are distributed. It will be some enhancements about this?

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

Diogo: We are looking into an answer for question #2.

from Aravind Sugur to Everyone:

@Diogo we are looking into Question #3

from Matthias Lurschack to Everyone:

Question: Hi all! When will CAPM 3.1 go EA and respectively GA ?

from Catalin to Everyone:

@Suzanne: thanks for that, but I was refering to more detailed information, more technical information. What I see there is marketing.

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Hi Matthias - No EA for 3.1 and we expect to GA end of March

from Matthias Lurschack to Everyone:

@Jason, thanks a lot! ;)

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Hi Catalin - Every situaiton is a little different so the best way forward would be to engage with your Account team to walk through an assesment and then we can have a larger discussion (including Product Management) to discuss. Not the best answer but there are a lot of considerations and no one-size fits all answer.

from Catalin to Everyone:

Hi Jason: I know that. I have a complex installation that I should be extending under an upcoming split/merge and I'm reached by rumors about eHealth that are not very pleasant for my situation.

from Catalin to Everyone:

Do you have any plans to have a github repository for custom certification built by customers around the world? I know there's a page where certifications are published, but that's maintained by CA and under its control.

from Juliana Potapov to Everyone:

@Diogo regarding q#2 and #3 - if you think  that some changes are required, please go ahead and submit a cert request of what  you'd like to see... the cert team needs to investigate and decide whether the changes are feasible or they will come back with detailed explanation why they are not. Please open a support case and attach mibs and mib walks of the devices

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Catalin - No plans yet but I think it's a great idea! Let me float this by our legal team to see how we can make this happen.

from Catalin to Everyone:

Matthias: maybe we should have some discussions over this.

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

@Catalin, Aravind is going to engage you privately for your contact details to be sure we have the correct information. We'll be sure to have our customer success advocates and/or account team reps engage you to help you through that process.

from Catalin to Everyone:

Thanks Michael. I acctually need an extension of the eHealth system and I think there are mutiple choices on the table at this time. At least in theory. :)

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

@Catalin, in the interim I don't see why users can't share certs via the public community forum Discussion threads. Not a formal method that you're suggesting, which is a great idea, but may help for now.

from Catalin to Everyone:

I had an idea about NQA support for CAPM? Do you have any decision on that?

from Matthias Lurschack to Everyone:

Question #5: our customer would like to know when metric filtering in view settings is possible - we are onboarding nearly every week new user(s) and in cases where they are permitted to create Dashboards & Views, it is hard to find the proper CPU / Memory / Interface Metric. Metric Family Filtering of course helps a lot, but operations team and subject matter experts really often are working with user questions like this. That goes alongside with the question, if it is planned to bring OID information into CAPC or at least DA.

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Hi Catalin - Do you know the Idea # or link?

from Catalin to Everyone:

https://communities.ca.com/ideas/235726577

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Thanks Catalin - We haven't reached a decision on this but we'll discuss at our next Enhancement review?

from Aravind Sugur to Everyone:

@Diogo - I will be engaging privately with Diogo with his queries

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Matthias - Already in the backlog but we have not yet been able to prioritize. We are actively planning our next releases so I'll push this and see if we can get it done. I totally understand why this is needed and agree 100%.

from Catalin to Everyone:

Jason: thank you.

from Catalin to Everyone:

any plans to introduce EEM support for CAPM?

from Matthias Lurschack to Everyone:

@Jason: Thank you!

from Steve Weinert to Everyone:

Has anyone of you alreday cisco wlc controller in PM? can we see the number of users connected to each accespoint? What happens if an AP changes its WLC?

from Jason Normandin to Everyone:

Catalin - No plans at this time. Are you using LDAP by any chance?

from Catalin to Everyone:

yes, I know the workaround. The question is more related to SSO between SPECTRUM and PM. You can use the same user/password to login, but you have to authenticate twice.

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

@Steve: Digging around for some answers about the WLC and AP questions.

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

@Steve: For user count, we don't have anything out of the box. It would be an enhancement to the existing certs and/or a customized change.

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

@Steve: For the AP changing WLC, the normal Change Detection should recognize the change, retire the existing element and create a new one for the new ACL relationship.

from Matthias Lurschack to Everyone:

Question #6: we are more and more working with Data exports (from every 5mins up to weekly, monthly exports) over OpenAPI and would like to know if it is planned to inlcude this in the CA Sizing tool, as this type of additional load on DA (and DR) cannot be reflected there - it makes it hard for us to forecast DA memory consumption.

from Steve Weinert to Everyone:

@Michael: thanks. But the enhancement should be pretty easy as LoadRx and LoadTX are already supported...

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

That being said, with CD running every 24 hours by default, if that change is fast or missed it may not be seen.

from Michael Poller to Everyone:

@Steve I'd suggest an Idea post be submitted to the community for that to be considered. Without it be

from David Cosgrove to Everyone:

@Matthias - re: #6, we have dedicated a Vertica resource pool specifically to minimize the impact of OpenAPI operations on other processing core to the CAPM product.  Furthermore, the CAPM Sizer assumes already that it can handle the loads.  We really need to undertsand the nature of the workloads/extractions in question.

from David Cosgrove to Everyone:

@Matthias, I should also point out that with recent architectural improvements in 3.0+, most of the workload is Vertica-centric.  That said, there are still some workloads that are DA resource heavy.
