Tracking Your Content's Success Using Impact Metrics

For certain types of content, it can be helpful to determine how successful your content was in catching the attention of your fellow community members. Content such as blogs, how-to documents, and product-based discussions are meant to resonate with other users - but how can you tell whether your content is well received? Impact metrics are the easiest way to track the impact your content is having on your peers in the community by providing detailed information about the views and interactions taking place on the content you've authored.

 

Impact metrics are only available to the authors of a given piece of content. They can be found in the grey box labeled “impact metrics” just below the body of the content, and you can click on the box to expand the report and see more details.

 

A summary of all the information the impact metrics provide can be found below. All of this information can be filtered to any timeframe by using the date drop down, and days/hours buttons on top of the chart.

 

Graph Filters – click on any of these to see a graph for the data selected:

  • Views: Total views from both Community and non-community members
  • Viewers: unique views by logged in community members
    • Unique CA Communities member viewers are listed on the bottom right side below the chart. You can page through to see all the registered users who have viewed the content
  • Comments: number of comments left on the content. Counts each comment, including multiple comments left by the same user.
  • Likes: number of people who have clicked like
  • Shares: number of times a user has shared this content with other users/communities
  • Bookmarks: number of people who have saved this content to their bookmarks list within the communities

Below the graph:

  • Global Reach: of the ~40K active community members, what percentage has viewed the post
  • Sentiment: the ratio of the number of people who have viewed your content vs those who have liked it
    • Sentiment is broken into 3 categories: neutral, good, and exceptional
  • Impact: indicates the impact this content has had on viewers, and how often they come back to view the content
    • formula is (((views x .1) + participants)/viewers) x 100
    • in other words, 100 views generated by 50 people will have a lower score than 100 views generated by 10 people.
  • Email: indicates the number of email notifications that went out related to post.
    • This includes anyone who follows the space or author to their inbox, and/or notifications for shares, @mentions, and comments
  • Top Referrers: people whose shares and/or comments have generated notifications that brought other users to view the content
  • Viewers: list of registered users who have viewed the content while logged in
