Product Announcement for CA Client Automation

Dear CA Client Automation Customer:

As a result of upgrading to Microsoft Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update), some customers are facing problems with the Remote Control (RC) feature of CA Client Automation.  We are aware of the issue and are working urgently with Microsoft to get this resolved.

Problem Description: The Remote Control feature relies on the Microsoft Windows’ API (EnumDisplayDevices) that lists all the display drivers installed on a machine. This API was working fine on previous versions of the operating system, including Windows 10 version 1703. But with Windows 10 version 1709, this API is no longer working as expected. As a result, the RC Device Driver is unable to capture the target machine’s display, leading to an unwanted user message appearing and poor RC session performance.

Problem Resolution: We have adopted a multi-pronged approach to resolve this issue with Microsoft Windows 10 version 1709:

  • Immediate term: Configure RC to use “Polling Mode” until we find a resolution for the driver mode issue. Please refer to the technical document TEC1020974 for further details on how to switch to polling mode and improve the performance.
  • Short term: We are working with Microsoft to investigate any possibilities of reinstating the API on the effected platforms, at least as a custom patch.
  • Medium term (next 2-3 quarters): We have started working on completely rebuilding this feature using alternative technologies and APIs.

If you have any questions regarding this issue, or the Immediate term solution outlined above, please contact CA Support (https://support.ca.com/).  If you have any questions or require assistance contact CA Customer Care online at http://www.ca.com/us/customer-care.aspx where you can submit an online request using the Customer Care web form: https://communities.ca.com/web/guest/customercare. You can also call CA Customer Care at +1-800-225-5224 in North America or see http://www.ca.com/phone for the local number in your country.

Updates on progress as we diligently work to resolve this issue will be provided through our Support and Communities portals.

Your success is very important to us, and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership with you and thank you for your patience.
