Thank you to our customers for attending askCA today! We had great questions and conversations! This is what it's about!
Thank you to our support team and product managers for answering live questions. Glenn_Shoemake Shane_Ryan kakba01 Nagesh_Jaiswal
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: Hi Everyone, we will get started in just a few minutes
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: Ok
from Shane Ryan to everyone: Hi. I'm on
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: We will get started in just one minute! thanks for joining
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: Hi Everyone, let's get started... I have support engineers and product management on the line ready to answer your questions.
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: Who has a question?
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: Will there be a smooth migration option from SystemEdge to CA UIM concerning integration in CA Spectrum
from Dan C to everyone: Good Afternoon, We are in teh process of migrating to ServiceNow Event Management and need to know how we can send CA Spectrum Alets to the Service now Event tables.
from Maik Seckler to everyone: we have a customer which uses almost exclusively Brocade devices. Brocade support (esp. NCM / SPM) could be a major point in deciding whether to countinue with Spectrum or not. Are there any plans to improve the support of Brocade devices in Spectrum?
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Sascha, If this is concerning virtual host models in VCAIM with VHM in Spectrum as soon as you integrate UIM, it will automatically destroy all of the Spectrum VCAIM models when VMware Hosts are enabled in UIM integration. The transition is smooth.
from Praveen to everyone: When will Spectrum supports vmware NSX integration
from Percy Piccoli to everyone: Hi, will there be a CA Performance Management integation in Spectum that we can launch a Dashborad for a specific device?
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: @Glenn: Yes, but the problem ist that the Virtual Host Models are used in Service Manager and will be deleted from services
from Trishul to everyone: @Sascha..Within same landscape UIM integration and VHM will not co-exist. But within same DSS you can have UIM Integration for VMWare in one landscape while on another you can have VHM provided you've enabled origin to lanscape mapping through spectrmgtw prior to integration.
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @Maik - there is no out of the box support for Brocade NCM, but you could always go ahead and create custom scripts to support it.
from Praveen to everyone: Like Vmware Datacenter migration across lanscapes when UIM hosts will move automatic to there lanscapes by finding its upstream connection .
from Trishul to everyone: @Praveen...can you elobrate on that. Are you asking NSX support as part of Spectrum UIM integration
from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Dan C, There is no direct way to forward events from Spectrum to another event management system. But customers using SANM to do that usually.
from Praveen to everyone: Is there any plans to configure all the configuartion like (cdm) from Spectrum Oneclick for UIM models
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: @Glenn: Ok, so when we activate we have to reassign the models to their services
from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Praveen, This is being considered for future releases of Spectrum
from Maik Seckler to everyone: @Balram: I know I could do that - or more precisley, have the customer pay me for doing it. The question was more in the direction of whether there are plans for CA to provide such functionality OOTB in a future release?
from Praveen to everyone: @Trishul - Not Integration with UIM ..We need NSX to be integrated with Spectrum as delivering the SDN solutions from Spectrum itself
from Trishul to everyone: @Praveen...Thank you. Nagesh has answered it.
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: @Glenn: Ok, so within same landscape we have to reassign the models to their services
from Praveen to everyone: Is there is any possibility to stop and start all notifiers (Alarms ,Service Desk)from Spectrum one click ?
from Shane Ryan to everyone: @Percy. You can access CA Performance Management performance data from CA Spectrum device and
interface models. You gain rapid access to information about device performance issues in
context.
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Sascha, I haven´t seen UIM models that are integrated into Spectrum being added into Service Manager, but I suspect that it is possible as the UIM models can be added as a resource into Service Manager. I just haven´t done this myself from a support perspective yet.
from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Praveen, There is no plan to provide probe configuration from Spectrum OneClick
from Percy Piccoli to everyone: @Glenn: Thank's
from Praveen to everyone: Spectrum One click must be integrated with Microsoft Lync or skype to see the availability status of trouble shooter and assign the alerts.
from Maik Seckler to everyone: @Nagesh, maybe you could answer my question?
from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Maik, We need live devices in order to do NCM certification. If there is a way you can provide that then we can plan for it.
from Maik Seckler to everyone: @Nagesh, thanks, I'll see to it.
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: @Glenn: Yes, they can be added as a resource afterwards in service manager, we have tried that
from bjorn to everyone: Is it posible to export alarms or make an report of alarms based on a oneclick alarm filter automatic ?
from Praveen to everyone: Packet loss report must be captured for device stopped alerts in Spectrum for analysis purpose .As of now we can’t validate it without a report .Any suggestions on this ?
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Sascha, ok i think unfortunately it will be a manual process as I do not think there would be a way to do it automatically
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: @Glenn: But first time you activate Vmware Monitoring all models are lost from service manager
from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Praveen, integration with Lync or Skype is not planned
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: @Glenn: And you have to reassign manually. This is quite hard for us :-)
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @bjorn - have you tried to use alarm notifier functionality
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Sascha, yes unfortunately the services will need to be rebuilt by adding the UIM resource.
from Percy Piccoli to everyone: We have a lot of Cisco Router and Switches in maintenace mode for not alarm in the productive environment. We like to use NCM to save the configs of these devices which is not possible in maintenace mode. Is there a workaround or hidden way that we save configs with NCM?
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: @Glenn: Ok, maybe it could be a feature in 10.2.3?!
from bjorn to everyone: we are using notifier other ways,, but we want to take snapshots of active alarms in diffrent one-click filters eg every week.
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @Percy - regarding NCM in maintenance mode - let me get back on that if there is way !
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Sascha It would be best to post this as an enhancement request on the Communities
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: hi Everyone, if you are just joining us here thank you! i have support team and product managers here ready to answer your questions. we have 30 minutes left...
from Praveen to everyone: Packet loss report must be captured for device stopped alerts in Spectrum for analysis purpose .As of now we can’t validate it without a report .Any suggestions on this ?
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: @Glenn: Ok, i´ll do this. Thank´s for answer
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Bjorn, the only thing that I can think of is to do an export of the alarms from the alarm filter in CSV format.
from Sascha Arlitt to everyone: Goodbye Everyone. Thanks and have a nice week
from Saju Mathew to everyone: @everyone Do we have a document which can help me to upgrade the spectrum version to the latest version. I have Spectrum Integrated with SOI console. Also, I have 4 spectro servers and two application server... Any document that can be helpful for my type environment upgrade?
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @Praveen - can you elaborate on the packet loss ?
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Saju probably best to open a P4 ticket and we can fully examine the environment and make our recommendations
from Saju Mathew to everyone: Thanks Glen!! I think I have to do so... Since I did some research... But didnt find a doc.. which I can refer to..
from Shane Ryan to everyone: @Percy. It's not possible to save a config in maintenance mode as NCM is disabled. However, functionality was added a couple of years back, that once maintenance mode is ended, a capture of the config is taken automatically.
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Saju no problem Support is always glad to make recommendations before doing upgrades and to assist before doing an upgrade
from bjorn to everyone: ok, the export will work, but hard to do for x numbers of filters pr week. should have an automatic method to do this
from Praveen to everyone: @Balram - Assume that i got device stopped alerts and there is a icmp packet loss ..I need the data when there is loss
from Praveen to everyone: As a default SCOM send alerts with FQDN ,In spectrum all the UIM models are in simple name , so alerts are failed to map ..How Spectrum will overcome this issue and map alarms correctly.
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Bjorn it may take some time for us to research if there is a way to programatically do an export of alarms
from bjorn to everyone: is there a traceroute(from spectro server to device) for oneclick. It is in the web console, but can't find it in oneclick
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @bjorn - it is only in web client
from bjorn to everyone: can we get it in oneclick ?
from Percy Piccoli to everyone: @Glenn, thank's for the response
from Trishul to everyone: @Praveen..packet loss stats cpatured till the point of failure?
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @bjorn - what is the exact functionality you are expecting? is it that traceroute should run from the one click server only? but just a button provided in one click ?
from bjorn to everyone: want the traceroute run from(oneclick/spectro server) as eg. ping and ssh
from Praveen to everyone: @Trishual i am getting frequent device down for a server..How do i analyze where there is a gap in Network.
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Praveen, if its a single server that goes down frequently, best to capture a tcpdump at the SpectroSERVER, if its multiple servers that go down, please open a support issue and we can do a Perfcollector as notifcaiton and latency problems can cause this type of behavior
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Praveen we are checking with our UIM colleague regarding your other questions with SCOM, UIM and Spectrum with short names and FQDN
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @bjorn - there is alarms rest api where you can add your own search criteria to filter, did you try out that?
from Praveen to everyone: Thanks
from Shane Ryan to everyone: @Praveen. there used to be the option to use ip of the source hostname instead of hostname, when we used the SNMPgateway.
Perhaps that would function as a workaround.
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @bjorn - here is a link which you can refer for some discussion on the alarm rest - https://communities.ca.com/thread/241743747
from Praveen to everyone: @Shane I have integrated Spectrum and SCOM using connector ..Not with UIM
from bjorn to everyone: yes, have looked at the rest api, but could not see a easy way to do it. Some of this filters are complex and advanced with use of attributes.
from Praveen to everyone: Is there is any possibility to stop and start all notifiers (Alarms ,Service Desk)from Spectrum one click ?
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: community suggestion. customers should 'follow' other customers so you can stay connected.. lots of great conversation happening here.
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @bjorn - so do you want to use already existing filters which are created using oneclick for reporting or in rest api ?
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Bjorn RestAPI supports Alarm Filter names
from bjorn to everyone: yes, that what we want, nice if we can use alarm filter names in RestAPI, could you please give me some examples
from bjorn to everyone: that will solve my problem
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: 5 minute warning for final questions... please submit
from Praveen to everyone: Like Vmware Datacenter migration across landscapes when UIM hosts will move automatic to their landscapes by finding its upstream connection. As of now we are discovering as a pingable in respective landscape for this .
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Bjorn http://<hostname><:portnumber>/spectrum/restful/alarms/filters[?name=filter_name
from bjorn to everyone: Nice :-) thank you
from bjorn to everyone: In event procedures, is there possible to access the internal attribute for ifalias at device level. See them
only at interfacelevel, on the devicelevel we only see the external attributes.
from Neville Styles to everyone: Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this - I'm not sure where to best direct it. But what's the strategy for server monitoring agents. We curently have SystemEDGE and UIM - I get the impression UIM is the favoured agent (not many recent updates to SystemEDGE). Will SystemEDGE be going EOL?
from Glenn Shoemake to everyone: @Bjorn if the alarm filter has a space, you will need to add a plus sign such as Major+Alarms if the alarm filter is "Major Alarms"
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @bjorn - it should be possible, with some additional event procedures. let me check on that
From Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Neville, We will get back to you on this.
from Shane Ryan to everyone: @Praveen. regarding the scom integration problem with uim models using shortname. We will need to investigate this via an issue and resolve. It's not a problem I am familiar with.
from Praveen to everyone: Sure Shane Thanks
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: some final answers are coming in...
from Trishul to everyone: @Praveen.."for modeling host in the appropriate"..with multitenancy support you should be able to do this. THis is supported from 10.2.2
from Praveen to everyone: Thanks
from Balram Kakani (CA) to everyone: @bjorn - you should probably be looking at ReadAttribute and GetModelsBtRelationId procedures
from bjorn to everyone: Thanks, should try that.
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: Thank you so much to everyone that attended today
from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: we hope you found it useful !
