CA Network Flow Analysis: askCA Chat Transcripts (February 14, 2018)

Feb 14, 2018 03:24 PM

Thank you for joining askCA for CA Network Flow Analysis.  We are glad many of you have said this is incredibly useful.   Thank you to sigju01, Christopher_Walsh, Nagesh_Jaiswal, brzda01 and members for CA product engineering for being available to answer customer questions.

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: We will get started at the top of the hour.

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: OK, so good morning, afternoon, evening to those that have joined here today.

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: I have CA support team, presales, engineering and product management with me here today!!! Please go ahead and ask your questions!

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: who wants to ask the first question?

from Bob to everyone: When will alerts use some type of windowing, example, I want an alert when udp traffic goes above 80 percent for 10 minutes out of 15

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: Hi Everyone! Is it planned to remove Flash from NFA?

from Bob to everyone: currently it has to be above the threshold for every minute

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Nicola, Our startegy is to have NFA reports in NetOps Portal. Also we are planning to expose NFA API which will help you build your own reports.

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: Is there a timeline for this?

from Justin Signa to everyone: @Bob, we currently don't have that feature planned, but we will open an enhancement request for that.

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: Hi, I just wanted to know what the status is with the REST API for NFA. NFA is the last product without an API and as an MSP we find it very frustrating when trying to deploy 1000s of devices which Spectrum and CA PM handle pretty easily.

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Nicola, This is considered in this calendar year.

from massoud to everyone: How is 9.3.8 GA coming along?

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: I suspect most of the REST API is there already as the integration with CAPM etc must be using some sort of API already and I would assume this is REST

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Frank Tonjes, NFA API is also considered for this calendar year.

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Massoud, 9.3.8 is planned to be released in this quarter

from Christopher Walsh to everyone: @Frank as Nagesh noted above API's are in the roadmap, however in the meantime you can leverage teh Live API Creator which is part of CA APIM as some other customers have done to get API access into NFA

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: Oh that is good thanks for the update. This will be welcome news for a lot of people Thanks

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: Will the API also support administrational work?

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: Thanks Christopher

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Frank Tonjes, Current CAPM integration with NFA is not via API but other mechanism

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Nicola, Yes, Admin operations is also in plan with NFA API. I have asked for use cases on the CA Community. If you can contribute your use cases also then it would be great help.

from Bob to everyone: @Justin, I thought I already had an enhancement request for that, I will go look.

from Christopher Walsh to everyone: Here is the idea already created for this where some users have shared some use cases for API https://communities.ca.com/ideas/235724074-api-for-nfa

from Justin Signa to everyone: @Bob, which company are you with?

from Bob to everyone: @Justin, WellsFargo

from Justin Signa to everyone: @Bob, I will send you an email afterwards and we will look into this enhancement request. If there is one, we will prioritize it.

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: If you just joined askCA, thank you. This is a webex chat where you can feel free to ask us questions. support is here, engineering, product management..

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: Is there or will there be a way to create some sort of list of IP addresses, etc so we can only process flows from specific IP's?

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: Is it planned to support Netflow Lite?

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: We have an issue where we get flows from the wrong interfaces when a device fails over

from massoud to everyone: Will 9.3.8 support windows 2016 server?

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: obviously network config can be corrected but would like to provide inventory of what CA NFA should be processing

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Massoud, This is planned for this calendar year as well

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: When will support for win 2012 end?

from shaun ellis to everyone: @Nagesh, 9.3.8 release notes say Windows 2012 only, to confirm, there will be support for Windos 2016 later after 9.3.8?

from Christopher Walsh to everyone: @Frank currently this would be handled in the enable interfaces page, currently there ability to create rules for which interfaces or devices is not avialable at this time but has been requested by other customers

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Shaun, Yes, this is planned post 9.3.8

from Christopher Walsh to everyone: @Nicola there is no date yet for end of support for 2012

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: good!

from Justin Signa to everyone: @Frank, can you open a suppor tticket for the issue where the wrong interfaces are being collecting after a failover?

from m.ersepke@ersepke.de to everyone: hi, what's about the idea of a "unified poller" for Spectrum, PM and NFA?

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: We have already and it's not a defect of the product - just a byproduct of network config

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: We would just like to restrict NFA to only process flows from specific IP addresses

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: Just wanted to know if there was a way to do that and if not I'd add it as an idea

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @m.erespke, Unified Poller or Unified Collector is under consideration

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: Last year the unified poller was promised to come in 2017 - what are the reasons that now it is only under consideration again?

from Justin Signa to everyone: @Frank, I am going to shoot you an email afterwards to discuss that failover issue more.

from Christopher Walsh to everyone: @frank we have an internal Idea raised for rule based enable interfaces, but if you would like to create a public one wiith more details about your use case it would be good.

from Daniel Brzoska to everyone: @Frank rules based auto enable of routers/interfaces are being discussed and under consideration.

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Nicola, the research work is going on and making progress. There are some challenges and we are working on it.

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: ok Thanks Daniel

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: and thanks Justin

from Neville Styles to everyone: I'd like to second Nicola's question about Netflow Lite - are there plans to natively support it?

from m.ersepke@ersepke.de to everyone: ... it can come in two phases first UC for Spectrum and PM and 2nd integrate NFA

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Neville @Nicola, We will add Netflow lite in our plan and backlog

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: sounds great

from shaun ellis to everyone: @Nagesh. Be good if we can post update/s in CA communities say by third quarter of calendar year on some of the things highlighted above for appraisal, so our customers have visibility of status. Or let support know and we can post.... so we idea of what looks likely and less likely to appear.

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Shaun, Agreed. I already promised some of our key cusomers that I will provide montly update for them on the progress we make. I will extend the same for CA Communities.

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Shaun, by the way I have already started updating some ideas. You will see me there more.

from shaun ellis to everyone: ah, thank you.

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: Please share this information to partners also. I would like to be able to inform my customers.

from Justin Signa to everyone: @Nicola, do your customers have CA Communities accounts set up?

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: some have, but most of them don't

from Justin Signa to everyone: @Nicola, can we encourage your customers to join CA Communities?

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: I try

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: But still it is important for us to have as many information about the plans for the products as possible, especially for presales.

from Bob to everyone: I see Nagesh answering a lot of questions, I am not familiar with his name, is he with Engineering or Product Management

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: @nicola, happy to do a communities demo for you anytime if you think it will help..

from Justin Signa to everyone: @Nicola, also here is a Newsletter you and your customer can subscribe to: https://transform.ca.com/agile-ops-newsletter-registration-lp.html

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: I am Product Manager for Spectrum, NFA & UCM

from Bob to everyone: @Nagesh, Thank you

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: thanks Justin!

from m.ersepke@ersepke.de to everyone: ...working for DICOS as well, I would answer for Nicola, We can encourage some of of our customer - yes, some of them said DICOS as partner is the only source of news from CA ;-)

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @m.ersepke @Nicola, shoot an email to me at Nagesh.Jaiswal@ca.com. We can talk how can we improve on this.

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: we have only a few minutes left. are there any more questions?

from m.ersepke@ersepke.de to everyone: @Nagesh, we will come bach to you, thx a lot!

from Bob to everyone: any Idea when full ipv6 support will be out for conversations etc.., is it still in 9.4 or has version changed

from Frank Tonjes to everyone: Thanks for your time all

from Nagesh Jaiswal to everyone: @Bob, Considered for this calendar year again. We will keep the community posted on the progress.

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: @Frank, thanks for joining today

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: OK, since there are no more questions i think we can close out the session today, Please head over to ca.com/roadmap to sign up for a product roadmap session (registration required) and if you have any more questions please ask them in the community.

from Melissa Potvin (CA) to everyone: https://communities.ca.com/community/ca-infrastructure-management

from Nicola Fujara to everyone: Thanks a lot everyone. I appreciate these sessions!
