    1      Tested with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows

2      As per Microsoft compatibility matrix, Windows 10 is not certified Operating System for Visual Studio 2013.CA Plex is certified with Windows 10 with Visual Studio 2013 Professional (Update 5).  Following internal testing in CA QA labs, there were no installation issues with Visual Studio 2013 Professional (Update 5) and Plex QA regression suite was successful.

3     Windows 10 comes with .Net Framework 4.6.1 or higher as a default install. This will prevent .Net Framework 4.6 installation as higher version is already installed. With this, we may get warnings related to the processor architecture as Plex .Net runtime is based on .Net 4.0 and the machine has 4.6.1 or higher version. We can ignore these warnings.

For notes on CA Plex compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 see Knowledge Base Article  TEC495228 Note: The Server Core version of Windows is not supported for development or deployment of Plex applications.

Windows C++ Server Deployment Platforms

Note: The Windows C++ Server is provided for the maintenance of existing CA Plex C++ Server applications. For development of new applications for the Windows Server platform, CA recommends the C# or Java generators.

1   Tested on 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. Plex Windows C++ applications are 32-bit applications that execute under WOW64 environment on 64-bit Windows. For full 64-bit execution use the C# or Java generators.

Microsoft Visual C++ Versions

Older versions of Visual Studio may be obtained from Microsoft via an MSDN subscription or by purchasing the current version and requesting a downgrade. Please verify terms and conditions with Microsoft. Older versions may also be available from third-party resellers.

Visual Studio Express edition is NOT compatible with Plex C++ builds, because it does not include the MFC libraries.

Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 is available as a separate download from Microsoft and must be installed after Visual Studio 2005. In addition, on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7, the "Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista" should be installed.

All internal testing of CA Plex WinC and WinNTC applications are carried out using the English language

install of Visual Studio 2005.

For Plex r7.2.1 WinC/WinNTC variant, Visual Studio Professional 2013 is required.

Visual Studio Professional 2013 Update 5 is available as a separate download from Microsoft. In addition, Multibyte MFC Library for Visual Studio 2013 should be installed, which is available as a separate download from Microsoft.

All internal testing of CA Plex WinC and WinNTC applications are carried out using the English language install of Visual Studio Professional 2013.

Microsoft .NET C# Client and Server Generators

Visual Studio is NOT required for C# development; however, Visual Studio 2010, 2012 or 2013 may be useful for debugging and other development activities in which case the Express edition is the minimum requirement for this purpose.

If you are generating and deploying WPF clients or WCF services, then the .NET Framework is the minimum requirement.

Databases Tested with Plex r7.2.1, r7.2 and r7.1

The following databases have been tested with Plex r7.2.1, r7.2 and r7.1:

OLE DB Providers

In general, CA recommends the use of native OLE DB Providers rather than the OLE DB Provider for ODBC.

IBM OLE DB Provider for DB2

1    The MARS Connection option is recommended. See Plex r7.2.1, r7.2 or r7.1 online help for details.

2     Note that you should use the OLE DB Provider associated with the release of Oracle that you are using. Also, if you wish to use the 32-bit Oracle Provider for OLE DB on a 64-bit architecture, you must make sure that the CA Plex executable used to launch the application is configured to launch in 32-bit mode. See the online help for more details.
