This idea is to get the probe of things that was originally created by employee Bryan Morrow, added to the UIM product and fully supported as part of the product.
I voted up but I'd say that instead of making this probe part of the product, eng should look at the things it does and put that functionality into the product where it belongs.
For instance, the functionality to encode and decode password/connection strings is important to have but it doesn't belong in a probe. It's really a hack around a much bigger issue about pre-authenticating a piece of code. That should be part of the whole security model.
Or the ability to product a report of probe configurations. Again, wonderful to have if you need it but this probe is not where it belongs, that's more of an admin console thing in my opinion.
On the other hand, if it's a question of all or nothing, then absolutely, stamp this probe with the Broadcom engineering seal of approval.
I want to second everything this guy said.
I have created a poll to understand which features of Probe of Things are most critical for us.
Probe of Things: Which features are most critical for your organization?
Please, fill it up. This is important for Prod Mgt to understand what are the most used/important features and evaluate how to incorporate it to UIM.
