Issue with "User Favorites Menu - Edit"

  • 1.  Issue with "User Favorites Menu - Edit"

    Posted Nov 13, 2013 10:56 AM

    Hi -

All resources in our Clarity application are created automatically using a .CSV file and LDAP. All the newly created users do not have "user favorite - edit menu" instance right and on their FAVORITES menu the CONFIGURE link is not working.

If we create a new User manually, this instance right is available and working as expected.

We want ths FAVORITES/Configure menu to work, does anybody know how to add this "User Favorites Menu - Edit" instance right externally or through XOG process for a particular user?

You can do this via process in which the gel script can be used to xog in the access right

    Check this -

Granting Permissions in a processs (GEL?)

The scenario sounds BUGGY to me though ; have you raised a case with CA Support to see if it is a known problem?

(i.e. that access rights which are automatically granted on user-creation in the GUI are not auto-granted when users are craeted through other means)

    --

EDIT : and if I actually thought about it before posting the above I'd have done a search and found "CLRT-66180" aka "Clarity: Resource created through XOG is missing access right to edit the Favorites Menu".  (TEC597397) laugh

There is a "workaround" detailed (lock/reactive the user) but that isn't great is it (still involves manual action - the article soes not suggest doing this via xog would fix the probelm) - support might have better ideas/options if you contact them direct though?

You can try the Active / Inactive approach as Dave suggests. However, I have recently had a similar experience with the User Favorites link and also the Configure component. I ended up opening a support ticket and have the issue resolved. I suggest the same approach here.

It does help if you identify the Clarity version you are running, how your resource file is generated from the CSV file ( I am guessing you create a suitable XML file) but you don't mention this. How many resources are affected, etc.

    Hi -

    Thanks for all the responds.

We are using Clarity 13.2. Affected users are around 2000+.

We tried that lock/unlock approach but it did not work for us. We have raised a ticket with CA and they informed us that this is a Clarity bug. That was the only workaround they provided. Even if that works, I don't think that it is a good idea to manually lock and unlock all 2000+ users.

Regarding GEL, I haven't done any scripting for Clarity. I will take a look at it and try to work on that.

Regarding our import process. Clarity will upload the data in .CSV file to a temp table then it will be xog in by a process.

Reach back to support and ask for Nika Hadzhikidi in support. She was able to build a stored procedure to fix my user issue. This was for a single user but with some work, could probably be used for your resource pool.

Hello all (thank you Allen for referring Red to me!)

As we had a lot of requests for this, I created a complete SQL solution : scripts to actually insert the missing rights and other elements for those users for both Oracle and MSSQL databases.
I just posted the scripts and the steps to follow here:

How to fix missing Favorites for XOG imported users and others

Please let me know in case of any questions, and I hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,

    Nika

    Hi Nika_Hadzhikidi,

The link provided no longer works. Can you please provide a new link that has this script?

    Thank you.

    Regards

    Jimmy

Great.. Thanks Marc. Being an SaaS customer, I'm getting OD to run that script for me.

    Cheers.

Thanks for letting me know Jimmy - I just corrected the link to point to the Community post, it was probably broken during our site update. I see Marc already helped with providing the tec doc as well so this is great, it was posted with the same script as my post above. So you're good to go!

Just ran into first instance of this issue - maybe there are other users affected, and just this one was found because I was working with the user.

Version 15.2.  User was not created via XOG import, but was created with the standard UI 'create' button.  No error message is given - just that nothing happens when user hover mouse over Favorites or clicks on it - it just appears to be a dead link.

Works for me.  Checked our accounts, I have the "User Favorites Menu-Edit" right, person with this problem does not.  Tried the workaround, locking then making user active again - did not work.  Marc's link is broken.

Nika - does your script still work in my slightly different scenario?  I can see that link to your page/script still works.

I do not know what happened but this was dropped from my post

How to fix missing Favorites for XOG imported users and other users that have an issue to access/edit favorites

    Document ID : KB000019027
    Last Modified Date : 14/02/2018
    Show Technical Document Details

    Description:

    Symptom:

For all users created by XOG the Favorites menu is not configurable and throwing error when clicking on Configure:

    Error 401 Not Authorized

This can be caused by a known CA PPM issue:

CLRT-66180 - XOG: when we xog in resources first, then users, the users don't get the Users Favorites Menu - Edit' right

Details regarding this issue can be found in Knowledgebase Article #TEC597397

Other root causes could be triggering this in later versions as well.

    Solution:

    Steps to fix the issue:

    1. On your Test environment, recreate the issue with few of the affected users
    2. Make sure you always use UTF8 encoding when executing the script (verify the captions in the script are displaying properly for all not English characters beforehand)
    3. Connect to your Test database and make sure Autocommit is disabled in your database query tool
    4. Run the appropriate script for your database (Oracle or MSSQL server) - attachedto this kb article
    5. Once script has finished executing, make sure you see no database specific errors occurred in the query output. Then commit the changes
    6. Reconnect and test with same users as in step 1.
    7. When confirmed that everything is fine, apply to higher environments

This script can also be used for users that have not been created by XOG for which Favorites menu is not opening at all when scrolling over or giving error 401. The root cause for the issue will be different.

If you need to only correct one user please modify the select condition before step 3. in order to include the specific user. Example:

    This part:

    select s.user_id from prj_resources r, srm_resources s, cmn_sec_users u
    where r.prid = s.id
    and s.user_id = u.id
    and s.is_active=1
    and u.user_status_id = 200
    order by s.user_id;

    can be modified to:

    select s.user_id from prj_resources r, srm_resources s, cmn_sec_users u
    where r.prid = s.id
    TEC605324.zip
    and s.user_id = u.id
    and s.is_active=1
    and u.user_status_id = 200
and s.unique_name='{indicate here the resource username}'
    order by s.user_id

The above will include only the specific user, provided that the resource is active.

If you need any assistance with this, please contact CA Support.

    Disclaimer:

This script is tested on environments under 25k users. For more users affected, please contact CA Support for assistance with running the solution.
