  • 1.  Write own Alert extension possible?

    Hello,

I was asking a lot of questions recently on alerting and got a lot of good answers (thanks at all for that). We had different solutions like using a javascript calculator to create the metrics that can then be used for alerting or pushing the information to a script that sends the mail. We discussed internally and thought, why not just write a simple extension to Introscope Alerts? We already wrote Tracers and Nameformatters ourselves, so perhaps writing an own alert is also possible?

So dear community, what do you think? Is there a way to write an alerts based on a given interface and add it to the enterprise manager? Is there any documentation on that - or sample classes in Introscope? Is it "legal" to do it?

    Thanks a lot,

    Stefan

You could perhaps look to the Custom Email Action field extension (I don't believe it's uploaded here, and I don't have a copy, sadly - would love to). It is referenced in the FeaturesAndCommonFieldExtensions.ppt. In it, they've added a new Alert Action in the Workstation. So, it's been done; it's not officially supported, obviously.

I had a look at the CustomEmailAction as we are in fact using this already. This is a great start to write ones own Action, but does not provide too much information on writing an own Alert.

So to summarize (for other people with the same question). I got lots of information from Florian (thanks for that again). Apparently it is not meant to extend the basic alerting facilities as there is no official extension point for that.

    Thanks a lot,
