I am looking for any real-world examples of Spectrum Service Manager.  The documentation is long on words but short on examples on actually setting it up.  Any help would be appreciated.

I've dusted off an old document with some instruction on how we use Spectrum Service Manager for availability monitoring and reporting and posted it in community wiki here: Using Spectrum Service Manager for availability monitoring

Hope that is useful for you.

Thanks.  This is should help me a lot.  How about putting more documents like these out there for us?  I'd love to see how CA eats its own dog food.  As a former user of Solarwinds, Spotlight, and others, Spectrum does give me a lot of insight into the network. Actually is like drinking from a fire hose. I'd like to see more technical videos on Spectrum and less the marketing ones I see on Brighttalk.

Good to hear this is useful for you. Just to clarify: I am not with CA and this is not a CA document. I am a board member for the community, but the IM community is run by customers with support from CA, not the other way around And all of the board members agree that we should focus more on technical content and less marketing. But often the technical content is much harder to get to then the marketing content. But that doesn't we'll stop trying...

I am trying to add more to the wiki when time permits. But my regular job does have priority, so much of the work for the community is done in spare time.

Hi opnet The marketing folks (me) might just be better at promoting the content, but there is actually more Educate videos than BrightTalk - yesterday's webcast was our first Spectrum brighttalk webcast in over a year! And you're right, Brighttalk is for people considering Spectrum, not the power users. That said, our marketing is changing a little in that we're helping Spectrum customers more easily find these videos and data they need to help run the product. It's all there, sometimes just not easy to find... but we're getting better at that. MichielHelder has some great content, and here are some YouTube videos from the CA Educate channel: CA Spectrum - YouTube

There's more coming as well... stay tuned and follow me to keep updated on the new stuff. Anything I post in the communities, I will let you know if it's content intended for potential customers or current customers. - I hope this helps

Thanks for reaching out to me. Here are some of the topics I'd like to see covered in some technical videos.

    1. Creating custom device groups each with separate NCM logins to back up. Ex. All Cisco routers in one group using SSH/SCP, while Cisco switches in another group using SNMP/TFTP for NCM backups with each group having its own backup policy and schedule.
    2. Creating service manager groups using real-world examples with alerting and reporting.
    3. Customizing alarm SetScripts and ClearScripts to provide custom device information
    4. VM infrastructure monitoring and alerting
    5. Configure reports
    6. More real world technical videos for network engineers showing how CA Spectrum can help them today

I'm working with the technical sales team now to plan out some 1-3 min demo videos. Stay tuned!

Thanks for those suggestions. I'll also put them on the list for potential technical webcast topics or for session topics if we are able to plan a technical IM event for next year.
