  • 1.  High CPU Utilization NFA

    Good Morning !
I use the  Network Flow Analysis version 9.1 (build 66) Update 1
We started the inclusion of router interfaces for monitoring.
With 75 routers had 30% CPU consumption. Now we have 345 and consumption is 63 % .
What can be wrong , because the system is very compromised .
Specifications :  Virtualized hardware :  4 Dual Core CPUs ; 8 RAM Memory 200 GB hard drive . Free 140 GB
    Thank you for your help,
    Jairo Santos

I'm not sure I understand the problem. You're monitoring nearly four and a half more interfaces than you used to and your CPU utilization has only doubled.

I assume you're on a standalone system (all NFA components installed on one server)?

    Dear Stuart Weenig,
Thank you for your feedback .
I 'm just using the four months the NFA .
We started monitoring both 70 routers (CPU in 30% server NFA) , each with 3 interfaces .
Now in the last months of September we reached 345 routers .
CPU usage is at 63 % (Server NFA) and yet more routers to include 300 . But we stopped.
We are using a server with CAPC and other NFA .
The NFA server had 8GB RAM , and two CPU DUAL CORE .
Increased today to 4 DUAL CORE CPU,  Notting change CPU used 63%. The system is vmware.
    Tanks,

Is this a StandAlone NFA server or distributed over multiple servers?

If its a standalone server, that seems like a lot of devices for a standalone server.

A standalone server should only be monitoring about 500 interfaces.

Also what is the Flows Per Minute rate on the Harvester?

How many Interfaces are sending flow?

You can use the NASTv13 tool as described in the doc below to get the Flows per minute and the number of Interfaces, it will show up as FPM on the top of the NAST report.

Tech Tips: NASTv13.exe available for NFA 9.1.3 and NFA 9.2

FYI the server specs are in the Installation guide:

    https://support.ca.com/cadocs/0/CA%20Network%20Flow%20Analysis%209%201%203-ENU/Bookshelf_Files/PDF/NFA_Installation_Guid…

If this is a standalone server and you are monitoring over 400 routers, you are way under scaled, also with only 200GB's of total storage you will not be able to retain much data at all.

    Dear Christopher Walsh,

    I'll check .

    Thank you ,

    Dear Christopher Walsh ,

Thank you for your help .

I will install the application NASTv13 tool .

To check the rates of our server .

We have a standAlone NFA server .

Soon be back with analysis .
