  • 1.  Financially Enabled Roles - Adding attributes

Ok - I'm getting my first look at financially enabled roles, via 13.1. I see that I can categorize a role by Transaction Class and by Resource Class, but not by Department nor by Location.

As I can modify the content of the Project Financials page, via Studio, I'm not looking to add Department and Location to the Role Financials page. Is this possible or are my expectations set to high?

Had hopes/expectations that the Role Financial categorizations would be such that we could use the same rows in the rate matrix that our resources use. Our rates are department/location based - not transaction/resource class based. If we can't add Department/Location attributes to Role Financial page (or even if we could, if these two attributes are not considered by the rate matrix when roles are used), then we will have to develop a workaround, one where we create duplicate rate matrix rows transaction classes that represent each department/location combination.

    Example:

    Resource A (today):

Corresponding Rate Matrix Row: TransClass=LaborDE, Resource Class = Labor, Dept=10, Location=Koblenz, Standard Cost = $35.00

Since Roles can’t be categorized by Dept/Location, we will need to do the following:

    Role A:

    Corresponding Rate Matrix Row: TransClass=Role-Dept10-Koblenz, Resource Class=Labor, Dept=*, Location=*, Standard Cost = $35.00

I'm not finding a means to edit the content of the Role Financial Properties page - so expecting that I'll have to implement our workaround, but will hope that someone has a better answer.

May have found something helpful. Apparently, Financially Enabled Roles use the following:
    - Trans Class and Resource Class assinged to role
    - Staff OBS assigned to resource (role) on the project

So, one can have one role, assigned to one combination of Trans/Resource classes, and then put the role on different projects, where each role on each project could be assigned to a different department or location via Staff OBS assignment.

This appears to be a workable methodology. We've never employed the Staff OBS feature, so will have to learn more about it and then do some testing.
