We are getting ready to upgrade from RA 9.0 build 161 Update 1 to NFA 9.2 (maybe 9.3). We are moving from appliances to VMs changing OS, etc. Any advise from people who've previously done this ?

The upgrade process itself is pretty well documented. You should make sure you update using the proper path. You might find Tech Tip: NFA 9.3.0 Upgrade Path pretty handy.

As far as switching from a physical to a VM, NFA doesn't really care. The main thing is to make sure you take the necessary steps.

Updating the OS is fine. I just went through and did that last month to all 15 of my NFA systems.

Here's a similar thread: NFA Upgrade.

The main recommendation I have is to not try to make all the changes at once. Instead of moving to VM with a new OS and new IP, and upgrading at the same time, move it to the new VM, with the new OS, and change the IP address. Then once things are working, then upgrade it. If you don't have to change the IP address, it makes your migration job much simpler.

Also when you go from 9.0 to 9.1.4 the data is migrated to a new format. This can take some time to finish so we recommend waiting at least a week before going to the next version.

And 'some time' means several days to a week. I saw one that took 12 days.

The upgrade finishes and then the data is converted while RA is doing its

    other stuff.

Step 3 of the document which Stu referenced Tech Tip: NFA 9.3.0 Upgrade Path explains how to check if you are done with the historical data migration.

The larger the environment, the longer it will take.

3)Once the upgrade to NFA 9.1.4 completes, there is a period of time where your historical data will be migrated to the new database format.

You need to wait for this historical data migration to complete on each of your DSA's before proceeding with the upgrades to 9.2.

To verify that your Historical Data migration completed you can run the following command on your DSA's:

         mysql -P3308 -D nqrptr -t -e "select from_unixtime(value) from settings where name=migrationCompletedTime;"

If this query returns a time, it means the historical migration completed and you can upgrade to NFA 9.2.0.

I just took my first look at that document and it isn't clear. It seems that 9.1.3 and 9.1.4 are used interchangeably. For example, step 2 says to upgrade to 9.1.4 using the 9.1.3 upgrade guide. Then step 4 says to upgrade from 9.1.3 to 9.2 (wouldn't you be on 9.1.4 if you were doing the steps in order?).

Charles,  where I can find documentation to update from 9.0 to 9.1.4 ?

    Thanks

    Diego,

Here's the 9.3.3 upgrade path doc:

    https://communities.ca.com/docs/DOC-231155322

    From that doc:

    3) Upgrade from 9.0.161 to 9.1.4 following the NFA 9.1.3 Upgrade Guide.

**Note that NFA 9.1.4 was a minor release so there was 9.1.4 Upgrade Guide published.**
