Project Name and Project ID are only available as string filters in object base portlets.  In order to standardize the portlets, which we currently have a variety of query base and object base portlets, we would like to have the ability to add Project Browse filter in object base portlets instead of project string filter.

Have you tried to create a dynamic lookup ? You can the attach it to the new field that you create on the investment object.
