  • 1.  Auto Discovery: "Client Automation 12.8" (with CCS feature) or "12.9" or "12.9 + 1"

    Hi,

    I have a Client Automation 12.8 (itcm 12.8 fp1) installed on my environment.

    I would like to have discovery of unmanaged systems (systems on which a CA Client Automation agent is not installed). Queries against unmanaged systems can be performed and reports on unmanaged systems can be generated.

    What do you recommend about "Auto Discovery"? I have 3 options bellow:

    1 - Try install CCS on itcm 12.8 and have auto discovery feature;

    2 - Upgrade itcm 12.8 to 12.9 and have auto discovery feature (I believe that in itcm 12.9, auto discovery feature are better than in itcm 12.8, right?);

    3 - Wait for client automation 12.9 + 1 version to have a new "Auto Discovery" functionality;

    At the end, I have a doublt if is better to upgrade to 12.9 or wait avaiability to 12.9 + 1 or intall ccs on 12.8.

    As far as I am aware there are no changes to the discovery features between 12.8 and 12.9, it is still using the same CCS components (‘classic’ discovery and ‘continuous’ discovery). CCS is not being developed. Some CCS features (Calendars and DTS Configuration) have been included in the base ITCM 12.9 product but discovery has not been moved to the base product yet.

    12.9.1 (AKA 12.9 Feature Pack 1 - just released this week) has no benefits for discovery. It is mostly focused on ENC and Remote Control enhancements, and some enhanced logging options.

    I don’t recall if 12.10 (upcoming release) has any discovery enhancements planned.

    Hi Stephen, thank you very much to your response.

    I have doubts about that. Could you please help me clarify that? Please verify the tech doc below:

    Product Announcement: CCS Functionality Replacement Plan within CA Client Automation

    (https://communities.ca.com/docs/DOC-231150268)

    I believe that are some changes to the discovery features between 12.8 and 12.9 and (12.9+1).

    I don't know if I wait  GA 12.9+1 or install CCS in 12.8 or upgrade to 12.9.

    Regards.

    Hi Nelson,

    That doc clearly states that 12.9 includes ONLY Calendars, High Availability and DTS Configuration enhancements. There are NO discovery enhancements in 12.9

    12.9 + 1 is where the discovery enhancements will come. Please note this is NOT 12.9.1 which was released this week. 12.9 +1 is referring to the upcoming Mercury release which is expected to be known as 12.10. It is not expected until some time around early 2016. I already have 12.9.1 and can confirm it contains NO discovery enhancements.

    If you need discovery now and have 12.8 already installed, just install CCS and wait for 12.10, unless you want to install 12.9 for other reasons. 12.9 will not buy you any improvements in discovery.
