  • 1.  PAM accross two datacenters

We would like to implement CA PAM to a new HA environment. The environment contains two datacenters DC1 (primary) and DC2(backup). We would like to have installed 2 PAM servers in each DC. I found in “CA Process Automation High Availability and Disaster Recovery Guidelines.pdf” from April 2010 some information but I not sure if I understood well how to correctly install PAM servers.

    Is it following design recommended?

    DC1:

       Domain orchestrator 1 (master)

       Domain orchestrator 2 (slave)

    DC2:

    Domain orchestrator 3 (slave)

    Domain orchestrator 4 (slave)

Domain orchestrators in DC2 should by stopped and started for work only in case of failures in DC1. Am I right?

    Thank you,

    Milan

That document is quite old, and written against PAM version 2.1 so some of the details are probably out of date, but the overall concepts within are still valid in the current PAM releases.

I would say though, that there isn't any reason not to run all 4 nodes at the same time, PAM will  internally, and automatically handle failures of a single node and shift work to another, and all the orchestrators should be ignorant of issues at the database as that failover would be handled within SQL server itself.

    Hi Michael,

    thank you for you answer.

Is there any newer document that covers in detail the same information for PAM 4.x version?

Are the following information from the old document still valid?

    1) Orchestrators do not support priorities. Within a Cluster, all registered Orchestrators will automatically load-balance.

    2) OasisConfig.properties parameter for database server failure

    oasis.database.additionalparamurl

    oasis.reporting.database.additionalparamurl

    Thank you.

    Hi Milan,

Recently we have a provided a solution to HCL for implementing disaster recovery. Please refer below link for more details and documentation.

One of the ways in which PAM can be configured in DR mode.

This solution was provided as a patch to customer so please reach out to me before you proceed further with the above solution.

Jfyi, we have also taken up a story as part of PAM 4.3.1 to address this use case.

    Hi chivi06,

our environment is not exactly the some but I'm interested in this solution. Can you give me some more information via email or other way?

    Thank you.
