CA Service Management

Hi everyone,

As you all know, the combo name default pattern in Service Desk for contacts is "Last_Name, First_Name". This is the american pattern, and here in our region, we normally use "First_Name Last_Name", but we never didn't care too much with this in our own SDM. However, one of our clients (he has his own SDM) asked if it isn't possible to change this pattern (for both visual and searching contacts purposes).

Has anyone already achieved this? We tried to change the combo_name.js file, and modified the combo_name derived field in MDB, without success (this last one crashed down the SDM, fortunately it was in test environment... )

This is currently not possible in the application at this time.  The combo name is used many places throughout the object layer, and would be very difficult to change.  Something like this would need to be an enhancement, which you can post here as an "idea" in the communities. Then folks will vote for it and product management will review it for possible inclusion in future releases.

Once I have done it by modifying base.maj and a js file which also generates combo name, but modifying base.maj is a risky action.

besides, I have also done some other modifications but i cant remember the detail.

You may give a try but be careful and don't corrupt base.maj

The combo_name format can be changed via .mod file customization that simply creates another derived combo name. See this example from I wrote i while back on external site:

Changing Display of Contacts - SDU 

Once you have this, you can then change this on the relevant forms so that it displays in the format you desire.
