CA Service Management - R14.1.02 -Patch installation

    Hi,

We have same database server shared for servicedesk , catalog and also USS. And my undestanding with the new service desk installer, it will not only dectect catalog and USS while applying sdm patche but also apply the patch automatically.

Our applications like catalog, USS and sdm are on different servers but database server is one. Is it ok to allow the patches applied automaitcally. And do we have any option to install only sdm pathces.

    Regards,

    Hi Sharath,

for CP2, there should not be any issues with applying it on the SDM servers only. It will update the MDB directly from the background or primary SDM server, so no worries there.  Catalog does not have any updates in the CP2 patch if im not mistaken, so that should not be an issue either.   We would always recommend testing the patch installation first on a test system that has a simliar configuration and architecture to your production environment, so that you have a better idea of how it will all work.

    Hi Jon,

I think so, Catalog CP2 doesnt have updates to MDB but it has updates to the application. So my question, if on sdm backgroup server if I install the CP2 with installer it will also apply the patches on catalog and uss as well?

Yes, i will do first in dev, then in test and move it to production

    Hi Sharath,

It will not apply any binary updates to the catalog server unless you run the patch installer on that catalog server. Same for USS.

I got this question after listening to the video from Rajeev.

Replay - Announcing New CA Service Management Capabilities

So, if it will not apply the patches that make sense. Thanks Jon.

I wil apply the patches and perhaps post my experience.

    Hey Sharath,

What is your current patch level of all the products in question here, cum#1  or are they different ?

    Hey Raghu,

We are at Cum#1 on all the products with some additional test fixes after c1.

Am little not clear when we say copy RO86617 catalog patch in the installer. Do I need to run the installer on all the servers like serviedesk standby, backgroup, sdm appliction servers, catalog server, uss server. And do we have any sequence.

    Hi,

I have just tried to install the c2 patch on sdm primary server thru installer and get the below error. My MDB is on remote server.

    Hey Sharath,

I believe CAZIPXP (the decompressing program) that's run silently by the installer, failed to unzip the files properly and that's why we're not able to find the needed file.

I don't think we have a JCL file for  MSSQL_MDB,  but its a CAZ file if I recollect this.

May I suggest one try -

    a) unzip the 14.1.02  patch zip file that you downloaded from Support.ca.com to:   d:\14.1.02    or something similar

    b) basically the intention is to keep it smaller directory structure

    c) retry setup.exe from there

If you already did that,  then I suggest opening a case on this with us

Below is the answer from support which resolved the issue...

    1. Extract CASM_14.1.02_CommonPatchInstaller_Win.zip.
    2. Perform the following steps if CA Service Catalog is installed in your environment:
      1. Download RO86617.CAZ from CA Support.
      2. Copy and paste the RO86617.CAZ in the CASM_14.1.02_CommonPatchInstaller_Win\Patches\SLCM\Binaries folder

These above stop SHOULD NOT be performed if catalog is installed on a remote server sharing the same MDB of servicedesk in advance availability.

Deleted the catalog patch from common installer and was able to install it successfully.

    regards.
