  • 1.  UIM Backup and Restore

    Hello Team,

We have backup of UIM present on VM but have old data. Now we want to update our backup uim vm with the production Data. I am taking full backup of mdb of production UIM and will restore it on backup UIM vm.

Is that all or something more to be done to have complete UIM data as production?

    Please advise

    Regards

    Dear La-Qa,

I am assuming your question is related to an earlier enquiry you had:

    Replica of Production UIM Server

Now, from your update you say you are trying to restore the UIM mdb to your vmware.  The currently supported versions of UIM do not use any mdb as their central repository.  On what type of database server is your UIM database hosted?

Also, what do you mean by complete UIM data?  There is certain configuration data used by UIM that is not being stored in the central repository, so we would need to understand what exactly you are referring to.

If you could expand a bit more on what environment you are using, and what your exact requirement is, it would be easier to guide you into the right direction.

    Thank you!

    Kind Regards,

    Hello MArtin

My exact requirement is to convert production uim server into VM(so that i can do some testing on that vm before going on production.). Please refer any document which has the steps to do it.

    Dear La-Qa,

As Gene's update,  what you can do is to restore a backup of your production database into your vmware database server. If this is MS SQL, you can use the SQL Studio tools to achieve this.

However, there is no documentation from our side that we could provide that details the exact steps you need to undertake here.

And, as said before, this would only import the current content of your database, and not any configuration files for any probe, no security files (ACL) or similar information.

The general basic process would be to back your SQL database from production, restore it to your dev or other environment.

If you have made changes to .cfg for things like hub, NAS or other probes on the primary you will need to restore the .cfg from prod to the other environment.

Of course things such as database names IP address machines names will need to be changed as need between environments. But the high level process is the above.
