Good afternoon  We have installed in a client CA SSO 12.52 SP2 with CABI 4.1 SP5 and when trying to execute any type of reports the following error is presented: " Exception:Report instance was not successfully created.  Please see the application server logs and the report server." We have verified that there is communication between the policy server and the report server since from the AdminUI we can see the requested reports although all are in a failed state .... I am attaching file server.log with details of the transaction.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions that may give us to solve this incident.

    Hello Luis,

Looking at the server.log , it seems that you were trying the "Audit" reports  which will need the connectivity with the audit database.

    Can you confirm following ?

    1. Are the analysis report working ? Or do you have problem creating reports for both Audit & Analysis based reports.

Analysis reports are pulled from policy store so doesn't need audit database connectivity.

    2. Do you see following Siteminder related reports when you login to InfoView app ?

If these reports are not available on the report server, it means you have not imported the reporting template properly.

Install the Report Templates - CA Single Sign-On - 12.52 SP2 - CA Technologies Documentation

3.What is your audit database ? Is it Oracle or MSSQL, if Oracle ensure you have all the config as per this guide :

How to configure CA SiteMinder Report Server with Oracle Audit Database

    4. Also ensure access to all the CA Report server ports from Admin UI Host as per :

    https://www.ca.com/us/services-support/ca-support/ca-support-online/knowledge-base-articles.tec512615.html

Thank you very much for your interest in attending my consultation.

In response to your suggestions I comment:

    1) Yes, i have problems creating reports for both Audit & Analysis based reports.

    2) Yes, the Siteminder related reports are available on the report server:

    3) My Audite Database is MSSQL.

    4) The communication between the Policy Server and the Report Server appears to be established. In fact, records with generated report data with failed status can be seen in both the Admin UI and the InfoView app:

I checked the article that you suggested and I am actually using the ports that are marked by default in the documentation. Likewise I managed to access from the AdminUI to the Report Server using port 8080 without problems. I am also attentive to any additional suggestions you may have about it.

Now Ujwol, I have been reviewing the generation process reports today and I noticed something curious. Usually when requesting reports with the CA tools, the first window that is shown is one where parameters are specified. In my case, this window does not appear. Instead, the first window I see is one where you specify whether the report is going to be generated immediately or in the future:

That is, I have no possibility to indicate the range of dates for which the report will be generated. Additionally when I see the detail of the reports that I have tried to generate the status detail indicates: "You need information to be able to process this report."

This would seem to indicate that such a parameter window is required, will you or any member of the community know if that screen was removed from version 12.52 SP2? Or is this some error in this version?

    Hi Luis,

    Thanks for the detailed update.

I tend to agree with your hypothesis here.

However, I am not aware of any knonw issue with 12.52 SP2 Reporting parameter dialog not being available.

I will need to setup this in order to confirm.

    I will keep you posted.

I can confirm, this is working for me on 12.52SP2.

Have you checked if you actually have the required data in the audit database ?

Also I do have useractivity.xml in the Report Server :

Can you check if you also have this file on the report server ? My guess is that either this file doesn't exist or have some permission issues.

Good morning Ujowl. Effectively when I check the audit database there are no records either in the smaccesslog4 table or in the smobjlog4 table. However, as the problem arises for all types of reports, I would expect the error message to be another one or even that the error would not appear, but the report will be generated without data. I'm very interested to hear your opinion on this.

As for the point related to the file useractivity.xml I have not found any file with that exact name in the report server. I got another one with a longer name and located in a different route than the one I see in your message, however the contents of the file if it is similar:

I am currently working with CABI 4.1 SP5. I have not gotten another version since this component is no longer being offered on the CA site because of CABI's transition to Jaspersoft / CABI 6.x.

Could this be the cause of the incident?

I don't think this is issue with CABI version.

My guess is the report templates are not imported properly.

Can you try importing the report templates by running the report configuration wizard?

Hi, yes of course. I'm going to import again to see if I notice anything in that process that may be generating the situation.

    I will keep you posted.

    Thank you.

Greetings Ujwol, I ran the import of the templates again, however, I got the same results when running the reports.

It should be noted what has been said in the process of making the following file:

By means of which the following Wizard is displayed:

Unfortunately so far I have not been able to display the Reports Parameter Manager window.

Can you attach the report configuration log created by installer ? That should probably inside install_config_info directory..

    Hi Luis,

Can you try renaming that useractivity-guidXX.xml file to useractivity.xml file, restart BO and test ?

What other files do you have in that directory ?

    That name doesn't look right.

    Regards,

    Ujwol

    Hi Ujwol

I renamed the useractivity-guidXX.xml file but the result was the same, i can't see the parameter window and the error message is displayed when i try to request a report.

This is the one file in this folder.

    Thanks.

    Greetings Ujwol

Finally the problem lay in the version of the CABI with which it was working. I was using CABI 4.1 SP5, I managed to get the CABI 4.1 SP3 version with my co-workers and imported the templates again using the file (ca-rs-config-12.52-sp02-win64.exe) and now If the previous parameter window appears when I try to generate any of the audit reports.

Again a thousand thanks for the attention you lent to the case and for all your suggestions.
