Copy action lists status reports for all projects - is that a bug?

  • 1.  Copy action lists status reports for all projects - is that a bug?

If you are using Status Reports and go to Status Report List in a project and open a status report you see the list of existing status reports for that particular project you have open. When you open one you get the Actions menu and have one action - Copy - available regardless how many you have defined for the Status Report object (by default it comes with three).

When you click Copy you get a list of all status reports in the system for all the project and not just like the list you started for the current project only and no way of setting a default filter for the current project only.

Don't tell me that it is as designed to provide the PM the freedom of choice to choose a totally unrelated source report and not a BUG.

Can you set a default filter for the current project or can you get the actions menu to the Status Report view a subpage of project properties?

    Hi urmas

I checked the same in the latest CA PPM 15.1 and saw that the COPY action is showing all the status reports that are present in the system. Hence this is working as per current functionality. And I have to say that, you were right. This is probably done to give the freedom to the PMs so that they can copy any Report that is present in the system. Hope that helps.

Thanks, but that is not helpful at all. I already know it is working like that in 13 - 14.

With no filtering and CA PPM being picky about viewing data with rights only that seems like a misconception.

When I want to create a new Status Report for my project the closest thing is the previous or latest status report from my project. All the others are just too far off.

Making that possible with less clicks would also be a performance and productivity and pissoff issue.

Sadly that is working as designed, not a bug. (all custom object copy actions work like this)

You cannot set the filter to the current parent object instance without customisation.

In 15.1 new UX status reports, they've fixed the logic so you just update the current report and publish when ready.

Behind the scenes it creates a new draft report from the existing report and sets the status

If you want some help with your copy process just get in touch.

Thanks am1  I've got the process  drafted the challenge is to how to launch the process other than the Save + Refresh.

15.1 sounds like they have fixed it (the use case on which the design is based)

See you at the UK UG I hope.

You will be able to select the instance and trigger the process from the menu.  (as per screenshots I shared)

If you still can't get that to work, like I said get in touch

On the three systems with Status Report object I have looked the Actions menu is not there in the Status Report list, but only in Status Report edit properties view. So selecting a status report has no effect.

Got a little further again. After adding a new Actions Menu brings that to the status report list and has also the Process item in it.

    The glue was in

Replicated Actions on Object Action Menu

The other thing was that either my PMO was not updated to match the CA PPM version or Status Report objec was corrupted.

Hi am1 can you please help me with the process to get this done? We are running into the same issue. It's better to have the investment name added to the window that pops out. Is there a way to add investment name to the lookup value?

    Hi Urmas,

I discovered the same issue with the Status Report - Copy action. Yes, it would be reasonable in my view to narrow the Status Reports records retrieved by default to only those that are associated with the given Investment, perhaps with the option to show all.

As a work-around, I have suggested to my users to embed the name of the Investment and the Date in the Status Report Name. When creating the new SR, they would copy the name of the last, finalized SR to their buffer, create a new SR, paste the buffered text in the Name, adjust the SR Name to reflect the new Date, Save, click the Action->Copy funtion, and then paste the buffered text a second time into the SR Name field to locate that relevant Status Report unambiguously.

'I believe' that the modification required would be to pass the Investment ID to the page that displays the list of existing Status Reports. I havent yet located the proper page/object, but I can keep you posted when I do.
