    Hello Rohith -

Could you please provide more details about what Common Services you want to/need to test?

    Thanks!

    Hello Rohith,

I totally agree with you.  In fact it should be a "Best Practice" that each and every CA product and component supply a minimum of two methods of checking out using an IVP to a) make sure the component is installed and b) that it is functioning correctly.  These are tools that we all should incorporate into our toolboxes for using each time we apply maintenance to our systems, upgrade our platforms, upgrade related products and perform Disaster Recovery testing whenever we have had to move our environment to another machine.  This standard policy has long been overdue in being implemented across the board at CA rather than expecting clients to simply trust that these components are operating as designed and originally installed.

    Hello Rohith,

I'm the current Product Owner for CA Common Services for z/OS. There are many CA Common Services so the answer to your question depends on what you have installed and configured. Some of the components do have an installation verification procedure or program (IVP) as Bill recommends. Sometimes the verification entails use of the product that is dependent on the common service. Can you provide more details as Jim suggests?

    Thanks!

    Hi Joe,

I found that the version of ENF from the task log is different than the

CAS9E10. Please let us know how to find the exact version of Common

    services.

    Hello Rohith,

Thanks for the additional information. I've asked CA technical support to assist you.

CA Common Services is installed and maintained with SMP/E which should be able to report on the software level.

Are you asking about a deployed library that is different from your SMP/E Target libraries?

    Thanks!

    Hello Rohith,

Thanks for the update,  I hope you saw Sean's explanation below. I'm going to write a story to have ENF display the proper release so we don't confuse CCS users like yourself. Are you good for now?

    Best Regards,

    Hi Joe,

    From ENF STC we found that the below services are active;

CAICCI Dispatch manager, Server manager, Interface manager, LU services manager, Spawn manager, Communication manager, Spawn server.

Please let me know any suggestions on this.

    Also from ENF we see that the below services are Installed;

    CA-ENF/BASE, ENF/CICS, ENF/DB2, CCI/BASE.

    Hi Joe,

Based on my previous 2 posts would you be able to share the test procedures for Common services. Please let me know if you require additional Information.

    Thanks,

    Hello Rohith,

Sorry the delay in responding, I just returned from a vacation. We don't have any specific test procedures for the Common Services that you have installed. Have you gotten the products that require them to work? Is there a specific concern?

    Thanks,

       Joe

    Posted Feb 21, 2017 12:57 PM

    Hi Joe,

    We have the below procedures to test the common services;

    1. Issue tso cairimu, tso caismfu and tso caisubu, collect the output

    before ipl.

once system is ipled issue the same commands and compare the outputs.

    both outputs should match

    2. Check the syslog for the messages id:

CAHC302I- for health checker installed successfully

    CAMS101I- for CAMASTER initialization

    CAS2031I- for CA SAF initialization

    CCSR090I- for CCSLMD component

CAHC113I and CAHC103I- for health checker initialization

    CAS9190I- for lmp keys accepted

    3. Check for started tasks ENF, CCITCP, CCITCPGW.

Recently we have applied the zOS 2.2 compatibility and CICS 5.3

compatibility fixes and post Ipl we tested the product as per our testing

    procedures and CCS looks fine.

Wanted to know if there are any other/alternative procedures that saves

    time to test the product.

                                                                                    Thanks,

    Hello Rohith,

At this time your testing seems sufficient and we don't have a way to make it any faster. I've added stories for IVPs based on suggestions in this thread but that work has yet to be scheduled.

    Thanks for the information,

    Joe

    Lenn,

What we are saying that packages like CCS or IPC provides many different

components as building blocks that we are to install our primary purchased

program product on top of.  Those primary purchased program products

usually provide us with one or few IVPs that we as clients can run to see

if the primary program product was installed correctly and is working.

Smart clients will also leverage these IVPs again whenever there is a

major change or upgrade in their OS platform or subsys like CICS.

What we are saying is that we expect CA to provide similar IVPs for each

of the components of these foundational packages like CCS and IPC in order

to make sure they are able to run and recognize which components are there

and which are not since all are not needed by every purchased program

product.  However, like building a house, it is very important to ensure

that the foundation of the house is "rock solid" and settled before you

start building the home or building on top of it.  We don't like

installing CCS and IPC blindly and not finding out until you attempt to

run the primary program product that there is something missing or not

    connected.

It would be very nice in the IVP for a component if it actually invoked

and utilized that component for some functional purpose.  However, if all

else, it could do something that could be useful to the client as a tool

    of some sort like:

display LMP keys and products installed, show CCI connections,

indicate the CICS releases supported by VPE,

reflect the IPC or CCS components installed and what is the

highest PTF level that is applied to each,

display the CICS OPID, CICS name and Applid the transaction was

    run on,

provide a disassembler for any main options blocks that would have

been created by the previous release,

generate a report with module prefix and message prefix associated

    with each component,

            etc. etc. etc.

    Hello Bill,

Thanks for the great suggestions.  I agree that CA should provide IVPs not only for products but for the common services or components. We have started to do that with new common services. I will take your IVP suggestions for older components and discuss them with the CCS Team.

If the team agrees these are good ideas that we can implement then I'll create stories that the CCS product manager will prioritize relevant to the other work. I'll keep you updated on the progress. How does that sound?

    Thanks again!

During the startup of ENF, you will see a CAS9075I message indicating the level that is executing :

    Service(CA-ENF/BASE ) Vers(1400) Genlvl(E100AW100)

In this message it show it as version 1400, the actual release is 14.1 as specified in the Genlvl, as E1.

I realize this is quite confusing and is something we should discuss making more obvious as we go forward.
