Robot running on Oracle Linux?

    Hi All,

We are looking to deploy a UIM to our new Oracle Linux/Exadata environment. We were looking to deploy robots to the database servers which are running Oracles Linux version. From what I am told , the OS it is just a modified Red Hat Kernel.  Can anyone tell me if they have had any experience with installing and running in this environment?  Any information you can share would be appreciated.

    TIA

Officially it is not supported for a robot, so remote monitoring is an option with the oracle and rsp probes.

Officially its not supported. But will it install and run? Have you heard from anyone that has?

    Hi pmurt

it might not be supported but I have successfully discovered and installed a UIM 7.8 robot on Oracle Linux Server release 6.8,  and if you run cat /etc/*-release you will see this is labelled as  Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.8 (Santiago).

It would probably be good to open a support case to get an official answer to this question.

    Kind Regards,

Thank you, that was what we were looking for, some one who has at least attempted an install. If the robot installs would the cdm and processses run as well?

Unfortunately this os is not currently supported as it is not listed in our PSM.

The robot and probes have not been tested on this platform to be able to tell you from a support stand point if you will run into issues.

As it is not support if there is a problem there will be little support can do to help you trouble shoot it.

A better route would probably be to use the RSP probe as a remote connection.

You will potentially run into less problems this way.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Gene,

If I were to go with the RSP  in the short term until the robot and probes are certified. What do I need to open in the firewalls to collect the data? Just the ssh port? Are are there others as well?

    Thank you for your Guidance

hi if monitoring with the RSP probe you would only need the SSH port 22 by default open. All remote commands are run through and SSH connection

There is currently an idea open to certify this OS:

Nimsoft Robot/Probe support required for Oracle OEL O/S

My company also needs support for both Oracle Linux and Oracle Exadata.  I voted up the Oracle OEL idea and created a new idea for Oracle Exadata Support.

Okay, I just voted up the Idea.
