Endevor

  • 1.  I can compile with my own compile jcl from endevor without having the option of extended processor

On my site they installed ENDEVOR V18R0 without Extended Processor option, and we wanted to know if it is possible to execute a compilation with our compilation JCLs when executing an ADD, UPDATE, GENERATE or MOVE Command.
I was researching and found an EXIT3 that allows a program to have control after these actions.

Now, someone from this community can suggest me some action, that allows me to achieve my compilation objective. ???

    Thank you so much

To be absolutely honest with you, to state the obvious, and in my own personal humble opinion, the BEST action to achieve your compilation objective is to immediately contact CA and arrange to install Extended Processors. And while you're at it, get Automated Configuration Manager as well.

Thanks  John, it is obviously the most obvious, but the issue of costs is not within my competence. In any case, thank you very much for your response, it will be considered

The point is that technically, I have the obligation to present the alternatives, the risk and the cost in time and development of an alternative solution.
It is obvious that with the EXTENDED PROCESS option the functionalities are much broader than what could be coded with the EXIT3.
If any of this group has had to code the EXIT3, I would like to know your recomendations

    Thanks again.!!!

Again, I would be very surprised if anyone anywhere in the Endevor community has done what you're asking. The cost-risk-benefit of the effort versus the ROI on installing the options with all its provided benefits (in addition to merely compiling code) would be difficult (if not impossible) to beat.

But as you've said, theoretically its possible to do it something similar yourself with an exit.

The extended processors give you so much more that just providing a translation processor for your source.  With that option you can then guarantee 100% that you have source to load Synchronization; with the ESI and Alternate ID you can make sure that the only time the application output is being update is only if the action is performed under Endevor and it is the Endevor ID writing to the output library.  And as John mentioned above with ACM - you can then have the capability of impact analysis, Endevor will alert you, then you can run manually or for a more automated process you can include in your processes to make sure that if an input changes you have to update the calling and THEN VIOLA you can make sure that nothing gets left behind.

Sorry I had to add my 2 cents,  I am not sure of the worth of Endevor without those features you might as use some home grown source management process.  With all of those options you have a solid foundation to govern your assets which is more than likely your companies livelihood .  Source management with a coordinated output management that is the only way to get to it.

    Hi,

Have you spoken to your CA account team?

I am reliably informed that the licensing model for Endevor is under review which might benefit you.
