Hi...does anyone have a list of best practices for monitoring Tomcat?  Example: list of alerts that should be turned on and/or valuable metric groupings that can be added to a dashboard?

This sounds like it would be a good topic for a blog by a knowledgeable resource.

    Hi,

we use a Management Module Template for Tomcat. Please find in the following screenshots an example of the dashboard system.

As You can see we monitor the five standard metrics of FE, BE (in this case Oracle and Web Services Calls), JSP, Servlet.

Regarding the resources we configure alarms on Host CPU Utilization, Java Process CPU Utilization, GCHeap Percent inUse and Time spent in GC and we visualize some other metrics as HTTP Activated, Expired, Invalidated Session, Connection in Pool, Thread Count, Thread Busy and Tomcat Availability (Availability Custom Alert).
