  • 1.  How to Reset API Manager machines (Gateway, Portal and Data) so I can make an installation from scratch

    Posted Jan 31, 2018 09:25 AM

    Hello everyone,

We'd like to install CA API Manager on our server VMs but before that, we have to clean the old ones (make a reset of the Gateway, the Portal and the Data server).

So we are asking if there is a detailed CA guide to follow or a roadmap of this process (Reset of API Manager Gateway, Portal and Data).

    Best regards.

    Hello Hamza,

Currently there is no clean reset option with our product and no option on the roadmap that I am aware of.   I can create an Ideation for you on this request.  Currently the only way I can think of doing this is to create a back up the moment of creating the server and reverting to that back up if needed.  To have a clean install ultimately your best option is to create a new VM and do the install from scratch.

    Dear Ndami ,

If it's for VMs, why just import the OVAs of gateway/portal again to create new gateway/portal servers?

If you don't want to keep the old VMs, just remove them.

ie. just add new vm and remove old vm, you don't have to "reset" old vm.

    Hello Zhijun He,

I am aware of this solution, but I am looking for a workaround in case I have no choice/time.

I have no direct access to VMs (there is a team who is in charge of any change I want to do on them). Removing old VMs and creating new ones requests cost me a lot of time (I have to do other authorization and intranet access requests). That's why I wanted to know if there is any solution that can help us avoid this time loss.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards,

    Ndami

    Dear Ndami ,

You mentioned you want to install new gateway, but for virtual appliance gateway, the so call 'install' is exactly to import the ova and then configure the gateway.

Besides, if you install different version of gateway, the platform, database, etc. may all be different, even we can 'reset' old vm, it just goes back to old env. It won't help.

    Regards,

    Mark

Does this help? I'm not fully clear on the process you are looking for...worth a shot:
