We have been having some performance issues on 11.2.1 HF2 and was looking at possibly patching to 11.2.3 but it looks like there is a memory leak issue? Do you know if this was fixed in 11.2.3. HF2

    thanks,
    Balbino

    Hello BalbinoLopez609508

You can use the upgrade checker to list the fixes implemented between these 2 versions:vq4thbwfkvhj.pnghttps://us.v-cdn.net/5019921/uploads/editor/hm/vq4thbwfkvhj.png" width="1116">

However based on your description it's really hard to tell what the problem is.

Best way to investigate in such cases is to open a support ticket with :
    • when applicable a list of error messages
    • a set of CP and WP logs (from all servers if there is more than one)
    • a time frame to search for

    Antoine,

Thanks for the response. I have gone through that process and support recommended we patch to current, but I see that there are customers with issues on 11.2.3 (possible memory leak). My question is has that issue been resolved in 11.2.3 HF2, what's the status?

    Regards,

    Balbino

I've heard of no memory leak issue in 11.2.3. And there was also nothing like that solved in HF2. Do you have more info why you think there is a memory leak?

    Hi Claus,

I was reviewing some post to see if other customers had similar performance issues as we have experience on 11.2.1 (which support said was know issue), and I saw a post which commented on this. As far as you know there are no related issue with 11.2.3. By the way I didn't see a clear fix related to performance for 11.2.1? I just want to confirm with you, is there a known issue with performance on 11.2.1 HF2, which is what we are running, if so what fix address that?

    Regards,

    Balbino

    Hi BalbinoLopez609508,

In most cases performance issues of the Automation Engine are neither related to the software nor to its version, but rather to the database response time.

A good way to evaluate this is to look for the performance indicator contained in the WP logs. E.g
U0003533 UCUDB: Check of data source finished: No errors. Performance CPU/DB: '62748651'/'576'U0003544 UCUDB: Reference values tested with Windows 2003 on XEON 1500 MHz: CPU 813865, DB 470
If your DB performance indicator is inferior to 470, then you may start looking in this direction.

You mentioned that support suggested to update to 11.2.3 : is there any incident reference that I can search for ? Maybe I can have a quick look.

    Best regards,
    Antoine

    Hi Antoine,

    Thanks for the feedback..

I have looked at this previously going back multiple versions and it's always been very low compared with the standard recommended (ranging from 180 - 220). I have had discussions with support previously about this and it did not go very far. Is this target more relevant on version 11? and what are the steps to troubleshoot and improve the response? Please advise

Note: I had an open case with support and the recommendation was to upgrade the AE

20161217/113155.004 - U00003533 UCUDB: Check of data source finished: No errors. Performance CPU/DB: '8929497'/'209'
20161217/113155.004 - U00003544 UCUDB: Reference values tested with Windows 2003 on XEON 1500 MHz: CPU 813865, DB 470

    Hi Balbino,

Automation Engine version should not have a significant impact on the performance. In cases where DB is slow to respond, a good start is usually to verify how database maintenance is performed.

    • Is it maintained regularly with Automic utilities ?
    • Is it performed on all Clients, including client 0 ?
    • Does the DBA perform a periodic rebuild of indexes ?

Here is a post that should give you more insights about it :https://community.automic.com/discussion/6824/db-maintenance-with-automic-utilities
Maintenance workflow templates are available here : https://marketplace.automic.com/details/database-maintenance-templates

    Antoine,

We perform the maintenance using Automic utilities daily and maintain minimal data in the database (reports, stats, messages). The DBA performs index rebuild as needed, we kind of went through this a couple of versions back and could not figure out a way to get that number up to the baseline

    Antoine,

Just curious, do you know what the percentages of customers run the AE on Oracle vs, MS SQL? Is it 80%/20% using MS SQL?

    thanks,
    Balbino

    Hi BalbinoLopez609508

    Thanks for your feedback.
do you know what the percentages of customers run the AE on Oracle vs, MS SQL? Is it 80%/20% using MS SQL?
I honestly have no information about this, but I'd say that the proportion you gave is quite right based on my support experience.

Your performance issues could either be related to :
    • the maintenance : is it performed against all clients? what's the record count in messages / stats / reports tables? What are the maintenance rules ?
    • or to the system's sizing : how many runs do you have and can your system / DB take it?

I would recommend to open another incident to deeper investigate. Just give me the number and I'll make sure to have a look at it.

    Best regards,
    Antoine

    Hi Antoine

Thanks for the feedback, we added a couple of work processes and seem to be stable now. I'll open another case if needed

    Thanks,

    Balbino
