I try to install DSM 14.0 agent on a linux debian 9 system but failed with message This platform is not supported.

There is a article KB000044320 mentioning to set and export a variable DSM_IGNORE_PREREQ=YES

When doing this I got another message : Fatal error: glibc detected an invalid stdio handle

Can somebody help me with this?

We are currently tracking a few support cases with agent install issues on Linux, with our LSM installer, due to recent updates to glibc.  Normally I'd recommend opening a support case, but I don't believe Debian is on our list of supported releases.  Nevertheless ITCM development has reproduced the new issues with lsm and glibc as recently as yesterday, and we are pending some solution for this...

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for your reply and comments. I opened a support case in the first place (case number 01061445) but they could not help me as Debian is indeed not supported. However the 'very helpfull' support engineer advised me to ask in the community :-) , he also told me that he exact had the same issue for another client on Kubuntu 17.x. Despite Kubuntu IS supported but only up to 14.x, they could not ask DEV/ENG to investigate and find a fix.

Debian is important in our company and now we finally got our engineering so far to install the agent on their systems I am blocked with this issue. The last thing I would have to say to our engineering guys that we are not able to install the agent on the newer linux flavors.

PS. We plan to upgrade ITCM 14.0 to ITSM CA 17.x in coming months.

    Regards,

    Jan.

    Hi Jan,

The information that our development is looking into, is when glibc is updated from 2.17-196.el7, to 2.17-222.el7 , our installer for the ITCM agent (a utility called lsm), is throwing an error.

We have another CA product, CA SysEdge, where a customer has reported using the following workaround, to get the SysEdge agent installed:

    1- yum downgrade glibc glibc-common glibc-devel glibc-devel

2- Install sysedge (or in our case, ITCM)

    3- Upgrade glibc again.

The idea being that lsm is only used to install/upgrade/uninstall the ITCM (or SysEdge) agent, therefore a temporary downgrade will allow you to install the product.

Note I'm not suggesting this as a permanent solution, just as a workaround until we can get the issue sorted since the changes to glibc.

I'm sure there will be more to follow next week...

    -Brian

Thanks a lot brian for this info.

I will try the work around next week.

Do you have the exact command syntax to use for the down and upgrade ?

    Regards,

    Jan

    Hi Brian,

I downgraded glibc on a Fedora 27 with “yum downgrade glibc” but agent installation still fails with same error.

I cannot downgrade again (Package glibc of lowest version already installed, cannot downgrade it.)

Seems that workaround no longer help as too many updates are already released.

    Cannot find older Debian library.

    Regards,

    Jan.

Hey Jan.  No updates on our end yet.  I will keep you posted.  If it makes you feel any better, our internal ITCM admins are reporting the same trouble.

    Regards,

    Brian

Updated ca-sm-installer package (LSM) is attached to this technical document:

Installation error (lsm/glibc error) when installi - CA Knowledge

Replace ca-sm-installer in your source files for the Linux agent, and retry the installation, and let us know...

    Hi Brian,

The updated ca-sm-installer is working !

I successfully installed the agent on a Linux Debian 9 and on a Red Hat flavor Fedora 27.

    Thanks a lot!

    Regards,

    Jan.
