  • 1.  Will the .NET proxy work with the .NET core framework?

In our product, we use CA Gen to create the .NET proxy file that is then consumed with a hand coded .NET UI. Prior to support for 4.0, we found that the proxy was really isolated from the framework level. We were able to use the 3.5 proxy in the 4.0 framework code without any issues. Our UI team would now like to go to the .NET core framework. Do you know if the current proxy (we installed the 4.0 framework patches) will work with .NET core? If not, does CA have any plans on supporting the .NET core framework?

As part of a general effort to expand our .Net and Azure capability, we have started to work with .NET Core. At this time we have not tested or worked with the Gen .NET proxy in that context. Therefore, we can't currently confirm support for the proxy using .NET Core.

I have consulted the engineering team and the consensus is that the current proxy is likely to be functional (though not exploitative) within that framework. That is not a statement of support, just opinion.

We will schedule a certification test for the current .Net proxy using core, and if it is indeed functional we will officially state support. If issues arise, there may be considerably more work involved.

I cannot give you an ETA for this, but since it should be a simple certification I will try to work it in as soon as I can. I will let you know when we start the certification (through this thread), and again once we have a result.

An update:  While we are continuing to work on getting .Net Core support for the proxy, our results with simple certification were not promising. There will have to be additional runtime provided to support .Net Core.

So this will take a little longer than we initially thought.
