Studio Developer is a new development environment for CA Gen that has been under development at IET over the past four years.

Following an extensive two year beta test phase with selected customers, Studio Developer is now ready for general availability on 31st October 2018.

Studio Developer is based on Eclipse, one of the best known industry standard development environments. It offers a modern user interface and many exciting new features that complement and build on the strengths of CA Gen.

The feedback from the customers that have been testing Studio Developer has been very positive. Here are some comments that we received:

    • "It is more intuitive to use (it reminds me of RDz, Visual Studio, Eclipse)"
    • "Studio Developer is easier to get used to. It takes a long time to get used to the old toolset"
    • "It is faster to code programs"
    • "It is not so restricted when you code"
    • "If you have forgotten how to do something, you get much more help"
    • "More manageable, and easy to find out where to do what"
    • "Search is much easier"

Below is a short video tour to provide a quick introduction. You can view more details at www.iet.uk/StudioDeveloper and also take a look at the daily countdown of 10 cool new features on the IET Development Blog.

Studio Developer has now been launched and is available to download from our web site.

It also includes new integrated clients for our other products like GuardIEn so developers can work within one integrated development environment for Gen development work plus change management, model browsing, subset definition and other daily tasks.

If you would like access to a trial version, please get in touch via email (darius.panahy -at- iet.co.uk).

    Hi Tarek,

Studio Developer comes with a brand new user interface designer for both GUI windows and Block Mode screens.

The UI Designer can be used with or without Rapide.

Apart from the support for Rapide described below, the new UI designer provides many enhancements to the way that you design UIs in Gen. These are described on the Studio Developer web site under UI Designer and Screen Designer and include enhancements like undo/redo, manipulate co-ordinates using arrow keys for fine adjustment or type in precise values, design the layout before needing to bind controls to specific views and more.

If you are using Rapide then all of the extended capabilities of Rapide are integrated in the UI Designer without needing to use a separate plug-in like the old toolset. This includes designing the additional types of controls supported by Rapide like tree views, tab controls, calendar controls, spinners, sliders, etc. In addition all of the additional Rapide properties for controls are displayed in the same property sheets as the standard Gen properties.

Studio Developer also has an integrated generation capability for Rapide which enables all of the components of a Rapide application to be generated, installed and assembled from within Studio Developer, again without needing to launch a separate plug-in.

    Best wishes,

    Darius
